Chelsea star Eden Hazard is a transfer target for Real Madrid in the summer, according to the Spanish club’s former president Ramon Calderon.
The Belgium international was in exceptional form during the 2014/15 season as he was a key factor, along with Diego Costa and Cesc Fabregas, in helping the west London club win the title in last May.
Hazard has struggled to replicate last season’s form as he is yet to score a goal in all competitions for the Blues this term. In addition to this, he has only three assists to his name, out of which two are in the Premier League.
Despite a disappointing run in the ongoing campaign, Calderon believes the 24-year-old could be approached by the Spanish capital club after the end of the season.
“I think they are maybe looking for Hazard. People are always talking about him, but he has contract with Chelsea and he hasn’t said anything about leaving Chelsea. So it is not a matter of money, as I said before many times, it is a matter of whether the player wants to leave,” Calderon told Sky Sports.
“We haven’t heard anything about Hazard leaving so we will have to see at the end of the year what is happening with the players currently at Real Madrid to decide what is to be done in the next transfer window.”
The Daily Mail claims Hazard has already decided to leave Stamford Bridge in the summer transfer window, which has alerted Real and Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions could challenge the La Liga giants in making an approach for the Belgian.
The same report also suggests Chelsea value Hazard to be around £90m and German giants Bayern Munich could also be in the mix to secure the player’s services. Hazard struggled under Jose Mourinho and after the latter was sacked in December, the forward has not managed to find the back of the net or registered an assist so far.
A move to Real will see Hazard take the place of either Gareth Bale or James Rodriguez at Santiago Bernabéu. Both Bale and the Colombian international are transfer targets for Chelsea’s league rivals Manchester United.
The former Tottenham star has been heavily linked with a move to Old Trafford. Another report from the Daily Mail claims Bale is unhappy with the club’s decision to sack Rafael Benitez. He will evaluate his situation at Real at the end of the 2015/16 season, depending upon how things would progress under new manager Zinedine Zidane.
Should things do not improve under the French manager, Bale could be on his way back to the Premier League with United likely to be his preferred destination.
