Leicester City centre-back Harry Maguire has been strongly linked with a move to Manchester United during recent weeks.
United are in the search for a new centre-back and their two main targets are reported to be Tottenham’s Toby Alderweireld and Maguire who was a shining star for England during the recent World Cup as the Three Lions surpassed expectations and reached the semi-final.
The Foxes have reportedly eyed Magpies captain Jamaal Lascelles as their perfect replacement for Maguire in the event that he does depart.
This will obviously set alarm bells among Newcastle fans. Lascelles led the club well last season and if he leaves, the club may face a difficult battle to retain their Premier League status next term.
The form and leadership ability of the 24-year-old has been so impressive that many predict that he will soon be called by to England by Gareth Southgate.
Fortunately for Magpies fans, the Evening Chronicle has reported that manager Rafa Benitez will be building his side around Lascelles next season.
Benitez also insisted last month that he does not wish to part ways with Lascelles when he said, according to the Sun: “We don’t want to sell him. He was a key player for us last year and he has to be this year and for a long time to come in the future.”
