Catalan based newspaper Sport has devoted quite a bit of space for young Brazilian striker: Gabriel Jesus. Sport claims that Manchester City, out of nowhere, have snatched a deal for the Palmeiras striker who was almost certain to join Barcelona. Money speaks.
Gabriel is one the upcoming young talents from the Brazilian shores and due to a similar playing style, he is often compared with his national team skipper, Neymar.
Palmeiras had set a price tag of €24m for Gabriel especially for these five clubs: Barcelona, Madrid, Bayern, Manchester United and PSG. It could be a possibility that these five clubs had shown most interests in the player (in the recent past) hence the Brazilian club was compelled to increase the asking price. The player’s agent claimed earlier that it would be a dream for the player to secure a move to United.
Earlier this week it was reported that Alexandre Mattos, the Palmeiras president was in Spain to hold talks with Real Madrid. Los Blancos were looking to sign him now and send him on loan to the Brazilian club.
Gabriel’s deal has been made complicated with the third party ownership system in Brazil. Palmeiras only have 30% of the player’s rights while 55% of it are controlled by the player’s agents.
Manchester City, however, have snatched the deal with a €32m offer (and close to €40m if wage packages are considered), while Cristiano Simoes, the player’s agent and Palmeiras both have given the green signal to go through with the deal. City will allow the 19-year-old to play in Brazil for the rest of the season until December and then Pep Guardiola will take a decision whether to bring him to Manchester or allow him to continue at his parent club for another season.
Gabriel has a great chance of winning the title with Palmeiras and could become the youngest ever player in the history of Brasileiro to top the scoring charts. He has scored 10 goals in 14 games already and he is looking forward to playing the next edition of Libertadores with the Brazilian club.
