England to face a Buffon-less Italy in the sweltering depths of the Amazon?

Italy captain Gianluigi Buffon limped out of training on Friday, with the keeper now a doubt to face England this evening in Manaus.

Buffon, 36, twisted his ankle during the session, and it could be a major psychological blow for the Italians if he fails to make the lineup this evening, with the Juventus shot-stopper a symbol of strength at the back for over a decade.

The Italians are eager to allay fears that their skipper will be out of their first World Cup game, with the official Azzurri Twitter page playing down the severity of the injury:

Brazilian ants infiltrate Uruguayan training camp

Hordes of ants invaded the Uruguyan training camp yesterday, with goalkeeper Fernando Muslera sharing the horror moment of finding hundreds of them in his bed on Twitter.

“It was funny more than anything else,” Muslera told a news conference before his side’s opening Group D match against Costa Rica on Saturday. “We found ants in the beds, myself and [reserve goalkeeper Rodrigo] Muñoz who’s sharing the room with me.”

“But it was fine. They came straight away and changed the sheets and we slept well.”

Soccerlens predictions: World Cup Gameweek 3

Colombia 0-0 Greece – Something tells me this will end in a draw, and not a very exciting one.

Uruguay 3-0 Costa Rica – With or without Luis Suarez, this should be a walk in the park for the South Americans.

England 1-2 Italy – Italy are my pick for dark horses for the tournament, and I’m banking on them seeing off England tonight.
