Janssen joined AZ for a paltry fee of just €500,000 last summer. After enjoying a phenomenal 2015/16 campaign he has now secured a ‘dream’ move to the Premier League where he will play Champions League football with Tottenham next season.
According to widespread reports, Spurs have paid around €22m for his signature. To be honest, it seems a lot of money for a young player who is hitherto unproven at international level. But at the same time, it also shows Spurs were serious about getting him, as they still pursued with the deal despite their opening bid being rejected.
€22 million a great fee for AZ Alkmaar. Great to see a Dutch club holding out for their asking price. That money is crucial for them.

Janssen was Eredivisie’s top scorer last season with 27 goals for Alkmaar last season and Mauricio Pochettino will be expecting a similar goalscoring return from the youngster.
The 22-year-old took a little time to adjust to the Dutch league last season but he looked simply unstoppable once he properly settled down. Janssen has recently made his international debut for the Netherlands, scoring three goals in his first five appearances for the national team.
Wolfsburg and Paris Saint-Germain were also interested in Janssen. The German club had a £15m bid rejected but both the clubs dropped down their interest after they were told the player has set his heart on joining Spurs only.
