Manchester United boss Louis van Gaal wants more German in the team, and he is ready to put up insane bids to lure them at Old Trafford. Next up, Thomas Muller.
According to report from German television Sport 1, Manchester United have submitted an insane €100m bid for Thomas Muller to lure him to join Old Trafford and reunite him with the coach who shaped his career at Bayern.
Bayern had previously rejected a €82m offer for Muller, and it lead the club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge to act quickly and stating Bayern Munich would not sell any more stars to Manchester United, having already sold German skipper Bastian Schweinsteiger to United a week ago.
“The Bundesliga has to finally act. The English are overtaking us left, right and centre. When taking into account transfer market activity, in marketing terms, in TV money – anywhere, really,” he said to Bild, via The Guardian.
“The Bundesliga has to be careful not to fall further behind, I think. Anyone who follows the transfer market at the moment, within which English clubs work, knows their clubs are being fully upgraded. The Bundesliga has to be careful that we’re not emptied out.”
The Guardian claims that Muller would earn around £265,000 a week at United, should the deal go through, and the player himself is flattered by Van Gaal’s interest. There is also a suggestion that Pep Guardiola is less sure of Muller’s worth at the club. The former Barcelona manager even dropped Muller after a training ground dispute, which shows the relationship between the two is uneven.
Manchester United have the financial power to sign any player on this planet. And €100m is a huge figure. He is an important player for Bayern, but at the same time, he has a price too, and Bayern surely would understand that at €100m, it should be a cracking piece of business.
Bayern have no pressure to sell any of their stars. They have already rejected a €82m bid, so there is an every possibility, the club would reject another mega bid for the German international.
