According to Cadena Cope, Manchester United offered to pay £40m to Sergio Ramos over the course of five years, if he joined the Old Trafford outfit this summer.

Sergio Ramos has been linked with a move to Manchester United all summer and it seems the defender has finally agreed to extend his contract at Real Madrid. According to reports, Ramos will be paid 10 million euros every season.
After his heroics in the La Decima campaign, Florentino Perez, the Real Madrid president promised to reward him with a mega money contract. However, Perez never delivered on his promise and that prompted Ramos to explore other avenues.
Manchester United’s need for a centre back is no secret and it seemed like Sergio Ramos and Manchester United were a match made in heaven.
However, after pre-season talks with Perez, in China, Sergio Ramos is convinced that his future lies at Real Madrid and has decided to reject United’s advances.
MARCA claimed that the World Cup winner and the Champions League winner has extended his contract until 2020 and will be officially presented next week.
Meanwhile, Ramos rejecting United is a big blow for the English giants who are now running out of quality alternatives in the market.
The Red Devils are still on the hunt for a defender and the only quality ones available are Nicolas Otamendi and John Stones (who is a Chelsea target).
It remains to be seen if Van Gaal can pull off a signing like Otamendi towards the end of the window, but there is little doubt that United need to add to their defence if they want to do well in the Champions League.
