Manchester United have been linked with Roma’s kevin Strootman even before Louis Van Gaal was appointed the manager in the summer. However according to reports from Manchester based media outlet Manchester Evening News, the Italian side are angry over rumours that the Dutch midfielder will join the Red Devils in the upcoming January transfer window.
Roma had earlier claimed that not even a €80m bid would be enough to acquire the services of Strootman, who has now returned to action after recuperating from a long term injury, which also saw him miss the World Cup. The 24 year has been a long term transfer for the Old Trafford side who are desperate to clinch the midfielder’s signature in the upcoming transfer window.
However Roma’s general director Mauro Baldissoni has claimed that the club’s President gets angry over Strootman’s possible transfer to United. He said, “Our President James Pallotta has already spoken about this and he gets angry with the rumours that link him (Kevin) to Manchester United. Our policy is that of investing in players that have quality but have room for improvement. Kevin is a young player with experience, and we want to build our future with players like him.”
However there were reports that the midfielder could leave Roma after the Giallorossi failed to qualify for the lest 16 of the Champions league. Strootman though is under contract with the capital club till 2018 and Baldissoni insists that their prized asset is going nowhere.
“We were cautious and we did not include the revenue of a possible progression to the last 16 of the Champions League on our books,” he said. We nevertheless had high hopes of qualifying from a very difficult group. Hence, we have no need to put our books in order. Everything is correct and we are no need to sell.”
But will Roma be able to resist a huge bid from United for the player in the upcoming transfer window? Only time shall have an apt answer.
