Real Madrid have had a substantial bid accepted for the French defensive midfielder Lassana Diarra by Portsmouth but there has been conflicting reports on what the exact transfer fee is.
According to The Sun, the fee is 24 million pounds while The Daily Mail insists that the amount paid by Real is 18 million pounds. In any case, the amount is way more than the 5.5 million pounds that Pompey paid for the versatile player to Arsenal January last.
Portsmouth themselves have confirmed the bid and have released the following statement on their official website:
“We have always said that we would only allow our players to leave if we received an exceptional bid. We could not stand in the way of a move such as this for Lassana. It shows how far the club has come under the ownership of Alexandre Gaydamak when Real Madrid come in for one of our players. Should the deal be completed, the club has already identified possible replacements.”
Diarra’s versatality to play at right back, in central defence and in defensive midfield would certainly a be a huge asset for the Merengues as they desperately try and revive themsleves and rescue their season. Moreover, Diarra shall also be able to feature in the UEFA Champions League this season for the defending Spanish champions.
There has always been a suspicion that Lassana Diarra was never fully used either at Chelsea or at Arsenal and maybe, just maybe, the still young French player might be able to establish himself big time at the Bernabeu.
