Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos will not be leaving the club and therefore won’t join Manchester United, according to Madrid manager Rafael Benitez. The newly appointed manager says that Ramos is an integral part of Madrid’s plans, and therefore there is no question of him being sold.
Ramos has emerged out as one of Manchester United’s prime targets this summer, and if the media reports are to be believed, the Red Devils had already lodged a formal bid in the region of €45m and would try to test Madrid’s revolve with another massive bid in the region of €60m, which if accepted would make him the costliest defender on the planet. Manchester United have been pretty encouraged by Ramos’s desire to join Old Trafford as well.
Benitez, however, is unfazed with the situation, and said he had no concerns about losing the club’s best central defender.
“In terms of Sergio Ramos, there’s a lot of talk about his situation,” Benítez told reporters in Melbourne, via Guardian. “For me, he is an enormous professional. In person, he applies himself, he does everything that the team and I ask of him.
“The president has already commented that he is staying with the club. I have spoken to Sergio at length in the summer about his ideas, about his future. I see Sergio as an integral part of our team, he’s a winner and that’s what we need in our team.”
