Punchestown Festival Tips: Day Five, Saturday 30th April 2022
2:35 – Dooley Insurance Group Cross Country Chase (5yo+) 3m1f RTE1
SHADY OPERATOR @ 3/1 with Boylesports missed the Cross Country race earlier in the week so will be fresher than most here. CD winner that will have the experienced Derek O’Connor in the saddle and hails from the Enda Bolger yard that has won this race three times since 2015. Last year’s winner, Call It Magic, is another to note.
Boylesports Special Offer – Money back if your horse is 2nd to the SP Fav (max refund £20). Applies to singles and win part of e/w bets in horses races in UK/Ire with 5 or more runners in. (Ts&C’s apply)
3:10 – Colm Quinn BMW Handicap Chase (5yo+ 0-145) 3m7f RTE1
Many chances there, with Regina Dracones, Peaches And Cream, Glenoe and Agusta Gold players, but a chance is taken on the Henry De Bromhead runner – PLAN OF ATTACK (e/w) @ 9/2 with Boylesports . This 9 year-old was a fair third in the Cross Country Chase at the Cheltenham Festival last time but is 4lbs lower here and is starting to look well-handicapped again off a mark of 134.
3:50 – Coolmore Kew Gardens Irish EBF Mares Champion Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo+) 2m3f RTE1
Several familar mares on show here, including Mrs Milner, Telmesomethinggirl, Marie’s Rock and Stormy Island – but the clear one the others have to aim at is the former Champion Hurdler – EPATANTE @ EVS with Boylesports . This 8 year-old Nicky Henderson horse was a cracking runner-up in the Champion Hurdle last month and backed that up with a top win at Aintree 3 weeks ago. She will be hard to beat if in that mood again.
Boylesports Special Offer – Money back if your horse is 2nd to the SP Fav (max refund £20). Applies to singles and win part of e/w bets in horses races in UK/Ire with 5 or more runners in. (Ts&C’s apply)
4:25 – Palmerstown House Pat Taaffe Handicap Chase (Grade B) (5yo+ 0-150) 3m RTE1
Willie Mullins won this last year so his Recite A Prayer is interesting and he also has Cavallino running. A few UK raiders too with Duc De Beauchene (Pipe) and Phoenix Way (Fry) coming over – both running for JP McManus.
But this is a race the De Bromhead yard have won twice in the last three years so their POPONG @ 6/1 with Boylesports is chanced with Rachael Blackmore riding. This 8 year-old was a decent second to the useful Fighter Allen last time at Tramore and with that run coming off a 198-day break should also be better for it. The yard also have Fully Charged and Minella Escape in the race.
5:00 – Ballymore Champion Four Year Old Hurdle (Grade 1) (4yo) 2m RTE1
Fil Dor will have his backers, but VAUBAN @ 1/2 with Boylesports beat him well in the Triumph Hurdle last time at Cheltenham and it should be more of the same here for this exciting Willie Mullins-trained 4 year-old.
Boylesports Special Offer – Money back if your horse is 2nd to the SP Fav (max refund £20). Applies to singles and win part of e/w bets in horses races in UK/Ire with 5 or more runners in. (Ts&C’s apply)
5:30 – Tote Always SP Or Better Handicap Hurdle (Grade B) (4yo+) 2m3f RTE1
A super competitive race so it’s hard to put you off many in the contest. But the stand out stat here is that trainer Willie Mullins has won the last four runnings and also 6 of the last 9.
He runs Mi Lighthouse, Heia, La Prima Donna, Berkshire Royal, Adamantly Chosen and Five O’Clock this year, but with Paul Townend picking to ride ADAMANTLY CHOSEN @ 7/1 with Boylesports , this 5 year-old gets the verdict. Yes, he flopped in the Martin Pipe Hurdle last time at Cheltenham, but is a proven course winner here and was actually hampered by a faller that day too. The drop in trip will help and will have more to come with just five career runs.
6:05 – Buggyman (Pro/Am) Flat Race (4-7yo) 2m RTV
Another good race for Mullins in recent years – winning 2 of the last 6 runnings. It’s a race with a lot of unknowns and unraced sorts, but the betting suggests the Patrick Mullins-ridden BALLYBOY @ 11/8 with Boylesports is the main Mullins hope so could be the answer here. Halibut is another to note for Emmet Mullins, who won the race 12 months ago.
6:35 – Have The Conversation – Say Yes To Organ Donation Punchestown Charity Race (4yo+) 1m7f RTV
Probably not a race to get involved in being a charity event and many inexperienced riders. But if you do want a fun bet, then the Jessie Harrington runner – BARBADOS @ SP with Boylesports – has fair form to it’s name and should give jockey Leona Hughes a good spin.
Boylesports Special Offer – Money back if your horse is 2nd to the SP Fav (max refund £20). Applies to singles and win part of e/w bets in horses races in UK/Ire with 5 or more runners in. (Ts&C’s apply)
