Newcastle United are eyeing up a summer move for Sporting Lisbon midfielder Matheus Nunes.
The 22-year-old was linked with a move to the Premier League club back in January, and he could now be on his way out of the Portuguese club.
According to Portuguese media outlet Record, the player will be available for around €20 million, although Sporting could be open to negotiating the fee.
It is unclear whether the Magpies will come forward with a concrete offer for Nunes in the coming weeks.
They are unlikely to be the only club interested in signing his, and they will have to move swiftly to fend off the competition.
The Brazilian is highly rated in Portugal and has been tipped to become one of Europe’s top midfielders over the next few years.
He is likely to improve with experience, and Newcastle could have a bargain on their hands if they manage to snap him up for a reasonable price.
The Magpies need to add more depth to their central midfield, and the Brazilian would be a quality acquisition.
Nunes joined Sporting from Estoril Praia in 2019 and has since made 49 appearances for the club in all competition.
He could form a quality partnership alongside Isaac Hayden if he secures the opportunity to play in the Premier League.
