Manchester United have won the race to sign Luke Shaw, according to reports from The Guardian, and a large share of credit goes to ex-manager David Moyes for securing the deal in place.
The 18-year-old has had a fantastic campaign for Southampton this season and could be a part of Roy Hodgson’s squad for the World Cup in Brazil.
Shaw was also targeted by several English clubs including Liverpool and Chelsea, but United camp feel, that a £30m deal to buy Luke Shaw on a £100,000 a-week salary is almost complete.
The £100,000 a-week, on a five-year contract would make Shaw English football’s highest ever paid teenager. The sum was more than what Chelsea were ready to offer and the report claims when the Blues were made known what Manchester United had offered, they decided pull out of the race to sign him.
Manchester United are intent on a spend of up to £150m on rebuilding the squad and Shaw could be one of the first signings of the club in summer.
Credit must go to David Moyes who persuaded Shaw to chose United ahead of Chelsea, with the Scot having put in long hours of work to try and secure the hottest prospect, as the report suggests.
However, Shaw’s prospective transfer might have an impact on Evra’s future as well. The 33-year-old was considering leaving the club but the Frenchman is now minded to stay. Evra is happy to be his mentor as he understands that the youngster is seen as a long-term replacement for himself.
