According to reports from the Telegraph, Manchester United manager Louis Van Gaal is plotting a summer move for Bayern Munich midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger. It is believed that the Red Devils are ready to exploit the midfielder’s contract stand-off with Bayern as he is yet to commit his future with the Munich side.
The report states that preliminary talks have already taken place with the 30 year old over a possible summer move to Old Trafford. Schweinsteiger was recently quoted saying, “I am in no hurry to renew. It is not something that bothers me because I have a year left before it expires. The important thing is that my physical problems and injuries are resolved. The rest will follow.”
Though the German star is on the wrong side of his early thirties, Daily Mail claim United’s interest is 100% on the Wolrd Cup winner as he could be available for less than £10m. However, this will come with the added risk of high wages and almost no re-sale value.
Schweinsteiger has featured in just 19 league appearances this season thanks to his injuries but he would be doubt a fantastic replacement for Michael Carrick as a hold midfielder playing just in front of the back four. Van Gaal’s connections with Bayern and his relationship with the players whom he coached could also help but it will be interesting to see if the midfield maestro quits his home country for a move abroad.
