Manchester United have responded to the widespread rumours claiming manager David Moyes and player/coach Ryan Giggs were involved in an aggressive bust up following the humiliating 3-0 defeat at the hands of Liverpool on the weekend.

The defeat, that effectively ended United’s hopes of a top four spot this season, reportedly sparked a bust up in the dressing room at full time, with a ‘senior player’ calling Moyes ‘clueless’.

The club have come out in response to claims that the player in question was the 40-year-old Giggs, who is privately said to be angry by the reports.

A club spokesman is quoted by ‘the Sun’ as saying: “The story of any problems between Ryan and the manager are completely false.”

Moyes meanwhile is focusing on the response needed against Olympiakos on Wednesday, with United requiring two goals to draw them level in the last 16 tie, after the 2-0 defeat in Greece last month,

“The players are capable of turning it around. We’re all desperate to put things right and make sure we play better to give the supporters here something to shout about,” Moyes told the club’s official website,

“They shouted [against Liverpool] and we didn’t give them anything on the field. When we went to Greece, the Olympiakos fans played their part so hopefully our fans will roar us on.

“We have to go for the throat to get the win. We won’t be gung-ho but we will certainly go with a mindset to overhaul the deficit as quickly as we can.

“We won’t be reckless as we could find ourselves with a bigger mountain to climb but we can be forceful. We have to be if we’re to keep ourselves in the Champions League.”
