Manchester United officials are in Spain to seal the transfer for Barcelona forward Pedro, as they look to complete their squad before the Premier League season begins next week. Spanish daily Diario AS has reported that the Red Devils’ representatives have arrived at the Nou Camp today for negotiations with a view to sealing the deal as soon as possible.
The transfer fee for the player has been reported as €30 million, something the club will not too have too many qualms of spending for a player of such talent.
United are on the verge of selling Angel Di Maria to Paris Saint-Germain are set to receive around €62 million for the Argentinean. The former Real Madrid man wasn’t able to cut it in the Premier League, but Louis van Gaal will be hoping that Pedro will be different.
The 28 year-old has been at Barcelona since 2004 and has scored 98 goals in all competitions for the Catalans since breaking into the first-team 8 years ago. But with Luis Suarez, Lionel Messi and Neymar running riot last season, it is very unlikely that he will get too much game time in the future.
United, on the other hand, are looking for strikers after losing both Robin van Persie and Radamel Falcao in the summer. Even though Pedro is not an out-and-out centre forward, he is a lethal finisher and can score lots of goals if given the right service. Some great midfield players like Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin have come to Old Trafford this summer, along with Memphis Depay up front, and signing Pedro could see the club have a near-perfect summer.
We analysed not too long ago why the Spaniard will be a hit at United, and the bargain price of €30 million that he is available for surely makes this an absolute steal.
