Liverpool right Glen Johnson could be set for a move away from Liverpool in the upcoming January transfer window. The trusted and reliable TMW have cited reputed Italian journalist Alfredo Pedulla claiming that Johnson’s representatives have already initiated talks with the Giallorossi. The English International’s contract with the Reds ends in the coming summer and its is believed that the 30 year old wants a new experience away from the club.
Johnson has been in poor form for Liverpool over the past couple of seasons and the Anfield faithful would be happy to see the back of him. However, any move away from Merseyside will depend on financial aspects. Johnson however might ask for a salary of €4m which could be out of reach for Roma. The report also claims that the figure could make a possible transfer move complicated but if the player lowers his wages, a transfer move is possible.
But will Liverpool provide Johnson a new contract urging him to stay on? The Reds have Javi Manquillo for two seasons on loan from Atletico Madrid but the Spaniard is still young and experienced in the Premier League. The report also suggests that Liverpool could offer Johnson a new contract, thus closing any doors on a possible transfer move. However, they need to act quickly, else they might lose the player on a free next summer. That however would be surprising as the Reds could sell him in January rather than lose him on a free months later.
