Gerrard: Liverpool’s success depends on me playing in the middle

Steven Gerrard – Liverpool and England talisman – has hit out at Rafa Benitez after Liverpool’s 4-1 win over Arsenal.

He’s particularly distressed at Rafa’s decision to keep him on the right wing.

Speaking in an exclusive interview, Gerrard had this to say:

“You can’t expect me to put up with this forever, you know?

It’s bad enough that Liverpool haven’t won the Premiership in so many years. But when you deliberately sabotage the team by pushing me to the right, it’s madness.

Yes, I know that my best position – for England and for Liverpool – is central midfield.

I would go so far as to say that England’s and Liverpool’s success depends on me playing in the middle.”

Gerrard stopped short of directly criticising his teammates or managers.

“I’m a team player and the captain – I know my value to the team. I also know that other players are busting their guts and deserve a chance.

But on the right for Liverpool I’m wasting my talents, and I’m sure Rafa has factored that in.

Does he not want to win the Premiership? I don’t know.

All I know is that I want to play in the middle.”

On leaving Liverpool next season:

“Where will I go? Manchester United fans hate me, I hate the cheating foreigners at Arsenal, and Chelsea already have Essien, Lampard and Ballack, not to mention Makelele, Diarra and Mikel.

I have no place to go, so I’m staying at Liverpool.”

On Soccerlens.com:

“You called me a diver, didn’t you, you fucking cunt.”

Umm….that’s all for now, Stevie. Thanks for your time.
