Manchester United have confirmed the signing of Anthony Martial from AS Monaco in the final days of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman joins the Red Devils on a four-year deal, with an option to further extend it by one more year.
A statement on United’s official website read, “Manchester United is delighted to announce that Anthony Martial has completed his transfer from AS Monaco. Anthony joins on a four-year contract with the option to extend for a further year.”
“Martial, 19, has made 70 appearances for AS Monaco since joining in 2013 and has scored 15 goals. The forward has represented his country from Under-16 level right through to Under-21, and was called up to France’s senior national squad for the first time on 28 August.”

The 19-year-old will become Louis van Gaal’s sixth summer signing, having already completed deals for Memphis Depay, Matteo Darmian, Morgan Schneiderlin, Bastian Schweinsteiger and goalkeeper Sergio Romero.
So far, the five summer signings have been a regular inclusion for the Red Devils. One thing that has been lacking in United’s team is pace. The arrival of the French international will give the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager more options on the wide position.
After missing out of signing Pedro from Barcelona, who joined Chelsea, it will give only strengthen the wide positions. French Football Federation (FFF) confirmed they have given permission to Martial to complete his move to Old Trafford from Monaco.
“Anthony Martial asked France coach Didier Deschamps for permission to travel to England to sign a contract with Manchester United,” FFF confirmed on Monday.
According to BBC, the forward was also linked with a move to Arsenal. However, United have managed to beat the Gunners in signing Martial in the later stages of the summer transfer window. The Frenchman is valued to be around £36m.
