CLEAROUT: Liverpool set to let go two stars as Rodgers aims fresh challenge

According to reports in TMW, Italian side Napoli are close to finalizing double loan deals for Liverpool stars Pepe Reina and Lucas Leiva. The wages of Reina was a potential stumbling block for the Spaniard to rejoin the Partenopei after winning the Coppa Italia and finishing third in the Serie A standings last season.

But now Naples based website Napolistyle have reported that the Reds have agreed to pay half of the wages of Reina which would see the goalkeeper return to Satdio Sao Paolo for the 2014-15 campaign.

Liverpool are also willing to let go out of favour central defensive midfielder Lucas Leiva to rejoin former manager Rafa Benitez at Naples. The Brazilian holds an Italian passport and it is believed that after the signing of Emre Can, Lucas will hardly get a starting eleven spot at Merseyside.

Recent injuries have also held back Lucas’ flourishing career at Liverpool and it now looks that his future appears way from the club. Benitez had earlier brought the 27 year old to Merseyside for just £5m from Gremio in 2007. The Spanish boss had claimed that the Liverpool supporters would soon see the best of Lucas who had failed to adjust after a tough start to his career at Anfield.

It appears that Brendan Rodgers aims to clear the so called ‘deadwood’ as the Liverpool manager aims for a fresh challenge in the coming season after successfully guiding the Reds to a Champions League berth after a long absence. It was a stunning season for Rodgers who expressed his disappointment after narrowly missing out on the Premier League title to eventual Champions Manchester City.
