Turkish champions Besiktas are preparing a summer bid for Manchester United midfielder Bastian Schweinsteiger, the Telegraph report.

Schweinsteiger has failed to make an impact in the Premier League since joining Man Utd last summer and spent several weeks on the sidelines with his long-sustained knee injury.

The German midfielder made 18 league appearances last season and his only goal for the Red Devils came against Leicester City after he headed a first-half equalizer in the match that ended 1-1.

Man Utd are set for a major clear-out by new manager Jose Mourinho and Schweinsteiger is thought to be a high-profile victim of the Portuguese’s arrival.

The Old Trafford outfit have already released goalkeeper Victor Valdes and midfielder Nick Powell after opting to not offer the duo new contracts and Sky Sports claim that club’s young prospects Tyler Blackett and Guillermo Varela will follow and leave the club this summer after identifying the pair surplus to requirements to Jose Mourinho’s plan.

Meanwhile, the German national team skipper, who tied the knot with Serbian tennis player Ana Ivanovic in Venice on Wednesday, remains unsure of his future at Man Utd with Besiktas poised to offer an escape route to Schweinsteiger following an injury-hit season.

Paris Saint-Germain are also reportedly keen to sign the 31-year-old to bolster their midfield options despite having concerns of his injury problems.

Schweinsteiger is expected to join the rest of Man Utd squad on the club’s tour to China before holding showdown talks with Mourinho to make plans of his future.
