Arsenal star Mesut Ozil has had a miserable past one week. The German superstar was heavily criticized by Arsenal fans and pundits for missing a penalty against Bayern Munich in the Champions League and was rested against Sunderland in the weekend.
Off the pitch, it has been tough as well with reports emerging last night that Ozil has come under police investigation, after allegedly hitting a photographer with his car.
The Mirror reports today that Ozil was allowed to return to his homeland by the Gunners boss. He has been given an extra break to regain his full sharpness.
Following the victory over Sunderland, Wenger has given his players two days off in an attempt to give the squad a much-needed breather.
Ozil went back to Germany to see his family and friends and is due to return on Tuesday. The German star is expected to be fit got Saturday’s Premier League away trip to Stoke City.
The German suffered a dead leg against Munich and therefore wasn’t risked on Saturday. Wenger generally doesn’t allow his squad time off during the season but it is understood that Ozil has been pushed to the limit in recent weeks and therefore has been given a break ahead of the tough fixture schedule.
