Ruby Walsh Tips at Cheltenham on Friday

  • 1:10 – Lycetts Insurance Brokers Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle (Challenger Stayers’ Series Qual’) Cl3 (3yo+ 0-125) 2m5f RTV: OFF TO A FLYER (NAP) 13/2

Last seen winning at Ayr in April but Ruby Walsh likes the look of jockey Freddie Gingell riding and claiming 3lbs and expects the horse to have improved over the summer.

  • 1:45 – Mucking Brilliant Paddy Power Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (4yo+ 0-150) 2m ITV4: WALK IN CLOVER (e/w) 10/1

Walsh fancies the bigger-priced of the Skelton runners here with jockey Tristan Durrell taking off 5lbs. Was in the process of running well last time at the track until unseating Harry Skelton.

  • 2:20 – SSS Super Alloys Arkle Challenge Trophy Trial Novices’ Chase (Grade 2) (Registered As The November) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m ITV4: PETIT TONNERRE 7/2

Only four runners here but Ruby is pinning his hopes on either Mighty Tom or the selection upsetting the favourite JRP One. The pick was a fine 7th in the County Hurdle and could make into a better chaser with time on his side.

  • 2:55 – Glenfarclas Cross Country Handicap Chase (GBB Race) Cl2 (5yo+) 3m5½f ITV4: DELTA WORK 5/2

Course winner over this unique track and former Grand National third (2022). Winner of the Cross Country at the Festival to Galvin but is expected to uphold that form and top jockey Keith Donoghue rides.

  • 3:30 – Trustatrader Novices’ Hurdle (Grade 2) (Registered As The Hyde Novices’ Hurdle) (GBB Race) Cl1 (4yo+) 2m5f ITV4: CAPTAIN TEAGUE 4/7

Ruby Walsh was impressed with the Persian War Novices’ Hurdle Chepstow win by this Paul Nicholls runner and thinks he’s going to progress up the ranks this term.

  • 4:05 – Valda Energy Novices’ Handicap Hurdle (GBB Race) Cl3 (3yo+ 0-125) 2m½f RTV: CAITHNESS 5/1

Won well at Kelso the last day and that win caught Walsh’s eye. Lightly raced for his age (7) and looks the sort that could be well-handicapped.
