The Importance of Football Betting Tips Today

Betting tips on football are easier to come by than has ever been the case. The reason for that is twofold. Firstly, the growth of live football being either televised or streamed, continues apace. There are countless dedicated sports channels in the UK, which along with terrestrial TV coverage and live streaming options (legal and illegal), give football fans a huge array of games to watch.

The second reason is the continued growth of a betting industry that treats football as their number one priority. Football dominates betting sites and they use the sport to stand out against competition. Often this is done with football specific promotions, betting products, or markets and odds.

Some bookies also give out free football betting tips, with gaming companies running their own sites dedicated to betting advice and tipping. In addition to the bookmakers giving out football predictions and betting tips, there are plenty of other sources. The mainstream media give out tips, often in conjunction with a bookmaker sponsor.

Then there are specialist betting publications such as the Racing Post, smaller independent tipping websites and individuals who look to build a social media following, off the back of their tips. Here at Sportslens, we’re quietly giving out tips and betting advice on a daily basis, at no cost to yourself. Visit the relevant section to find today’s football betting tips.

What are Betting Tips on Football

Football betting tips

If you’ve not seen football tips before, you might wonder what form they take. Quite simply, they are football predictions for things that might happen in a match, or in a competition. So, if you think that Manchester City will win the Premier League this season, then you have made a football tip!

Of course, the betting aspect also plays a part. A tipster may look at Premier League betting sites, see the odds and think that Manchester City are the right favourites to win the title, but also feel that their price is too short for it to be worth placing a bet on. They therefore wouldn’t necessarily give this out as a public tip, even though they think it will happen.

The sweet spot that tipsters are looking to find when giving betting tips on football, is a combination of something that they think will happen, that is also available at a value price. A value bet is basically a price that is considered either fair or better than fair, given the perceived chance of the event happening.

Rising Demand

With football being so popular, both with audiences and bookies, there’s a massive demand for tips. Though most people having a bet will be football fans, with their own thoughts on the event that they’re considering placing a wager on, tipsters bring an extra level of insight. They can be correct score tipsters or specialise in other markets.

The best football betting tips today come from tipsters for whom giving such advice and reporting on football, is their full-time job. A devoted football fan might spend a lot of time watching and thinking about the game, but even they won’t have the time to examine football in as much detail as pro tipsters.

Tipsters combine their years of experience with hours of research and observation, to come to conclusions that regular punters would miss. What’s more, the reasoning that they give to back up their tips, provides great insight into their mindset and enables regular punters to learn from their reasoning. You can find football betting tips for today, right here at Sportslens.

Weekend Football Betting Tips

By the Thursday or Friday of every week, weekend football betting tips start to appear. The weekend is when the bulk of domestic league matches are played across the world. When it comes to English football, the Premier League’s weekend fixtures can sometimes start on a Friday night and end on Monday night, with Saturday and Sunday games in-between. FA Cup games are also generally spread across the weekend.

While it’s really only Premier League games that you see on a Monday night, Friday nights are a popular choice for televised Championship fixtures. There can also be games from top European leagues played on Friday nights, many of which are televised live or streamed via bookie websites.

We’re going to take a closer look at the two days that are central to the weekend football schedule and attract lots of tips.

Saturday Football Betting Tips

There is no busier day in the football schedule than Saturday. Traditionally in England and in many other nations, Saturday was the only day over the weekend that football was played on.

The influence of television on the game has meant that this tradition has been gradually eroded, with games being spread over the weekend, but Saturday is still the main day of football action. In the Premier League there is normally at least five games taking place on a Saturday, with one of them being a lunchtime kick, one coming in the evening and the rest taking place in-between, kicking off at 3pm on a Saturday afternoon.

The vast majority of the EFL divisions – Championship, League One and League Two – still kick off at the traditional time of 3pm. Throw in the massive amount of non-league games and matches being played around the world on a Saturday and you are really spoilt for choice.

It’s no surprise then that there are lots of Saturday football betting tips to support this packed schedule of matches. They will generally start to appear from Wednesday through to Friday.

Sunday Football Betting Tips

Once a day of rest in the UK, Sunday is now home to a very busy schedule of football. Though Sunday lacks the depth of Saturday’s schedule, it can very often have the bigger top level matches.

Sky’s Super Sunday late afternoon slot often plays host to the biggest Premier League game of the weekend. When there’s a fixture like Manchester United v Liverpool on a Sunday afternoon, it’s a big event for bookmakers and they will throw everything at promoting it, which of course includes giving out the best football betting tips.

Another reason why Sunday football has become bigger is the advent of the Europa League and more recently the Europa Conference League, which are played on Thursday nights. The teams involved in those competitions will largely play their Premier League games on a Sunday, even if they’re not selected to be televised in the UK.

Sunday football betting tips tend to start being released on the Friday before, followed by more on the Saturday. With some countries such as Italy having traditionally played the majority of their matches on a Sunday, there are always plenty of games and betting opportunities.

Midweek Football Tips

If the weekends provide a feast of football, the middle of the week has also grown to bring a regular schedule of games to fans. In terms of English football betting tips, there are occasional midweek rounds of the Premier League and the EFL divisions, the EFL Cup and the EFL Trophy to enjoy. In recent seasons there have also been certain rounds of the FA Cup played in midweek.

There is also midweek action to enjoy from other domestic leagues and cups from across the world. Yet the main event when it comes to midweek club football is undoubtedly European competition and specifically the UEFA Champions League.

The Champions League is played on Tuesday and Wednesdays, right up until the showpiece final which takes place on a Saturday night at the end of the football season. It starts off with a group stage, that brings regular midweek football throughout the winter months. Then in the second-half of the season, the two-legged knockout stages produce great drama and lots of betting opportunities.

As previously mentioned, there’s also a host of European games played on a Thursday night, in the Europa League and Europa Conference League, which broadly follow the same format as the Champions League. Tipsters get plenty of work producing midweek football tips, with barely a week going by during the football season without some kind of top class action.

UK Football Betting Tips

We’ve mainly focused on English football betting tips so far, but of course there is plenty of football taking place throughout the United Kingdom. Outside of England, it’s in Scotland that the biggest league and cup competitions can be found.

Scotland’s top flight is known as the Premiership, with the Scottish Championship and Leagues One and Two following behind it. There are also the Scottish Cup, Scottish League Cup and Scottish Challenge Cup adding to the schedule.

As you can imagine, this range of competitions creates a regular flow of games to bet on. None is bigger than the Old Firm derby between Celtic and Rangers of Glasgow. Meeting four times in the league, these sides will also generally meet in at least one cup at some stage of the season, due to being the two most successful clubs in the country. It’s quite a unique situation that a derby can be contested so many times in a season and yet these games remain huge events.

There’s also lesser profiles league and cup competitions in Northern Ireland and Wales. Today’s football betting tips experts can often be specialists rather than generalists, sometimes concentrating on one nation and really getting to know their leagues. Look out for Scottish specialist tipsters if you’re thinking of betting on those leagues.

Outright Winner Premier League Tips 2024-25

Sat, 17 Aug 2024 , 12:30 BST • Season Bets • English Premier League (EPL)

Man City

Man City, Premier League Outright Winners 2024-25

There is no real appetite to oppose Manchester City landing a fifth consecutive Premier League title in 2024-25. This is due to managerial changes at Chelsea, Liverpool and probably across town at Manchester United too.

Mauricio Pochettino’s departure from Stamford Bridge after just one season in which he somehow rallied a young team into the top six leaves the West London outfit back at square one. Jurgen Klopp is a hell of an act to follow at Anfield and Arne Slot has his work cut out for him on Merseyside.

United need another major overhaul with their squad, even if Erik ten Hag somehow remains in the Old Trafford hotseat. That leaves Arsenal as the only real danger to Man City retaining their crown. Where Gunners boss Mikel Arteta found his side lacking in 2023-24 was a central striking option.

City have no such worries with Erling Haaland and understudy Julian Alvarez backed by a deep supporting cast of proven winners. While they’re all another year older and Arsenal pushed Pep Guardiola’s team all the way, finishing just two points behind, the 13/10 with Paddy Power about the title staying at the Etihad is attractive.

Premier League Relegation Tips 2024-25

Sat, 17 Aug 2024 , 12:30 BST • Season Bets • English Premier League (EPL)

Southampton

Ipswich Town

Brentford

Southampton, Premier League Relegation 2024-25

There are seven teams at 5/1 or shorter for the drop looking ahead to the new campaign 12 months in advance of the final day of next term, so there isn’t a ton of value on offer with the bookies about the relegation battle in the upcoming 2024-25 Premier League season.

All three promoted sides went straight back down in 2023-24, yet this time one is odds against before a ball has been kicked. That is Southampton, fourth best in the Championship but play-off final winners, at 7/4 with bet365.

Russell Martin is an ambitious young manager but, if he thinks South Coast rivals Bournemouth will loan him players when the two teams now occupy the same division, he can think again. As it stands, Saints will lose all but one of their five temporary acquisitions, with only Taylor Harwood-Bellis an obligatory purchase from Manchester City following promotion.

Regular goalkeeper Gavin Bazunu has a serious injury that should keep him out until 2025. Replacement number one Alex McCarthy is out of contract at St Mary’s, alongside Scotland duo Che Adams and Stuart Armstrong. Euro 2024 is a shop window for both to show they have something to offer new clubs on free transfers. Southampton look up against to survive without replacements.

No Value in Foxes, But Ipswich Also Appeal

Despite their automatic promotion alongside second tier champions Leicester City and an end to speculation over Kieran McKenna’s future at Portman Road, Ipswich Town are second-favourites for the drop at Evens with Betfred. Their highly-regarded young coach received the LMA Manager of the Year award.

McKenna’s stock is high and, although signing a new contract to stave off interest with bigger clubs, he is still on the radar of the English football heavyweights long-term. He stays with the Tractor Boys, but the size of the challenge of keeping them up remains massive.

The Foxes, under new management themselves with Steve Cooper, are back in the Premier League after just one season away. There is no point in backing Leicester at odds-on to go straight back down, especially with so many high-profile players out of contract at the King Power Stadium.

Beloved veteran striker Jamie Vardy stays on in the East Midlands, alongside Denmark defender Jannik Vestergaard. Fellow forward Kelechi Iheanacho, midfield duo Wilfred Ndidi and Dennis Praet and right-sided player have all gone.

Everton & Forest Must Sell to Balance Books

After the promoted sides fancied for the drop based on bookmaker prices are Everton (9/4 with Paddy Power). The hierarchy has indicated that, as the Toffees prepare for one last season at Goodison Park before the move to their new home at Bramley-Moore Dock, players must be sold.

This is so Sean Dyche’s side can comply with Financial Fair Play Profit & Sustainability Rules surrounding the club’s outstanding debts. It’s unthinkable that relegation could befall the blue half of Merseyside ahead of them switching grounds.

Everton may have to cash in on one or other of goalie Jordan Pickford, promising defender Jarrad Branthwaite who was also called up by England, Belgium holding midfielder Amadou Onana and number nine Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

A third consecutive top-flight season for Nottingham Forest (5/2 with BetVictor) sees five loan players leaving the City Ground after temporary spells. Nuno Espirito Santo has FFP compliance to consider in the East Midlands.

Among those the Reds will have to mull over cashing in on are forward talents Morgan Gibbs-White and Anthony Elanga. The pair scored or assisted 29 of Forest’s 49 Premier League goals in 2023-24 between them. Callum Hudson-Odoi also chipped in plenty, netting eight from the flank. Like Everton, they may just about find what is required from depleted ranks to survive for another season.

Brentford Could Be Overpriced

It’s not just Everton and Forest who have to sell either. Wolves also fit into this category but, having tipped them for relegation in 2023-24 and been confounded by their comfortable midtable finish on 46 points, they may have enough to survive again. The 4/1 on offer with betway is tempting, but Gary O’Neil is proving himself to be a very capable manager based on his spells with Bournemouth and now at Molineux.

He hasn’t been blessed with resources either on the South Coast or in the West Midlands. Wolves don’t have anyone out of contract over the summer bar a single loan player, but only winning one of their last 10 Premier League games is a concern. Forwards Hwang Hee-chan and Matheus Cunha got double figures, so the apparent lack of firepower highlighted as a previous concern doesn’t exist.

At an even bigger price, Brentford might be the ones to back if their slide continues. Thomas Frank’s West London outfit recorded a top half finish in 2022-23, but a gambling ban for star striker Ivan Toney all of a sudden helped wreck the following campaign. The Bees finished seven spots lower down in 16th in the Premier League season just finished.

They lost half of their league matches for the first time in any division since 2006-07. Could it be that the opposition has finally worked out how to get the better of Brentford? They managed just five Premier League victories after 2 December. If Toney is sold as expected, because the Bees will lose him for nothing next summer if not, then the 5/1 with BetVictor about relegation looks worth a wager.

Football Accumulator Betting Tips

One of the most popular types of football bet is an accumulator. An accumulator or acca, sees a number of individual bets placed together to create one accumulated wager. You need every selection to be successful for the acca bet to be a winner. These have become so popular that football accumulator tips are available on a daily basis.

With the odds of each leg of an accumulator effectively multiplying with one another, the total price of an acca can be very big. Packed football schedules at the weekend or on Champions League nights, are perfect for creating accumulators. It’s little wonder then that such bets are so popular with punters and that there is a big demand for football accumulator betting tips.

The nature of accas, allows you to add together a number of bets at smaller odds, which wouldn’t necessarily be worth backing individually. They can come together to form attractive odds and you can back them at relatively small stakes and still potentially win a lot of money.

Remember Additional Risks Attached

Yet it only takes one pick to be unsuccessful, for the whole accumulator to go down, so we’d recommend using a bookie that provides acca insurance and will return your stake in such an instance. Football betting tips today tend to reflect the rising popularity of acca bets. There are tipping columns that tipsters that specialise purely in giving advice on accumulators.

A lot of accas that are picked out by punters are often unsuccessful because they mainly include big clubs, who can be priced shorter than perhaps they should be and one of them with generally be unsuccessful. Having an expert opinion from a tipster could be valuable, as they will recommend bets that they consider to be value.

Bet Builders are a recent innovation that allows you to create an acca bet with selections from within the same match. Again, there are free football betting tips available that focused on Bet Builders, reflecting the increasing popularity of this kind of bet. If you want to

Football Predictions & Betting Tips

At one time, the most popular form of football betting was the pools. From a long list of fixtures that would all be played on a Saturday afternoon, players had to pick out the matches that they thought would be score draws. The would be football betting tips published in the newspapers for pools games, with experts picking out the likely score draws.

The advent of lottery games in the UK has reduced the popularity and cultural significance of pools games. Yet there are still betting sites such as The Pools that allow you to play them, albeit with much lesser jackpots than was once the case. Many betting sites are now offering football prediction games for their users to play.

Some of them are even free, yet carry cash prizes. Like pools games, they mostly revolve around predicting the results of matches. Therefore, football betting tips for today, will often carry pertinent advice. Most tipsters covering a football match will give an opinion on what they think the result will be, even if they ultimately choose to prioritise a tip on another facet of the match.

Another type of prediction game that you can now find at bookmakers, are ones based on fantasy football. Fantasy football has become incredibly popular over the past couple of decades, particularly one related to the Premier League. There are many specialist fantasy football experts out there giving advice each week on which players you should pick and who to make your captain. It’s not intended to be betting advice, but with more and more bookies offering fantasy games, it has unwittingly become so.
