Former Bookmaker with an Estimated Net Worth Of Over $2billion

During his early years Limerick-born JP McManus started life working for his family’s construction firm, but quickly got the nickname ‘The Sundance Kid’ after venturing into bookmaking and was not afraid to lay the bigger bets at his local greyhound track.

Horse racing ownership and betting on horses successfully followed, when in 1982 JP McManus bought the Martinstown Stud in his hometown of Limerick with his wife Noreen.

His debut horse he owned was called Cill Dara, while his first Cheltenham Festival winner was a horse named Mister Donovan, who won the 1982 Sun Alliance Novices’ Hurdle.

Since then, JP McManus has gone onto own over 70 Cheltenham Festival winners.

This year at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival, McManus broke through the 70 winners mark at the biggest jumps meeting in the world.

While it wasn’t long before he was adding to that tally with Sire Du Berlais winning the 2023 Stayers’ Hurdle and his Impervious taking the Mares Chase and Iroko landing the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys’ Handicap Hurdle.

Meaning the JP McManus Cheltenham winners stands at 73 and counting.
