At the five-day confirmation stage ahead of Saturday’s Epsom Derby, 16 runners have stood their ground with the big news being last year’s winning trainer Sir Michael Stoute and connections supplementing Passenger at a cost of £85,000 for the race.

Passenger Supplemented For Epsom Derby at £85,000 As 16 Runners Stand Their Ground

Godolphin’s Military Order heads the betting for Saturday’s Betfred Epsom Derby, but it’s getting tight at the head of the market with Aidan O’Brien’s Auguste Rodin and the Frankie Dettori-ridden Arrest not far behind.

Another horse that is now figuring prominently in the betting is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained PASSENGER, who has been supplemented for the Epsom Derby at a cost of £85,000.

Passenger’s connections – Flaxman Stables Ireland Ltd – have stumped up the big sum to get their recent Dante Stakes third into the big Group One Classic on Saturday with a carrot of £892,162 to the winning horse they will be hoping to increase their fee 10-fold – with a top 4 finish being enough for connections to get their outlay back, anything worse and the gamble wouldn’t have paid off.

This promising 3 year-old has only had two career runs – winning well at Newmarket on debut and an eye-catching third in the Dante Stakes, which is often seen as a top Epsom Derby Trial race these days, last time out.

Many feel Passenger was unlucky in-running that day at York too with jockey Richard Kingscote holding his hands up and saying he didn’t give the Stoute horse the best of rides.

Kingscote and Stoute also teamed up to win the Epsom Derby 12 months ago with a twice-raced horse that also ran in the Dante Stakes – Desert Crown.

You can back Passenger @ 11/2 with BetUK and also bet £10 to get £30 in Derby free bets (full Derby betting below).
