Hitman (pictured above) is Tony Calvin’s King George Chase best bet for the big Boxing Day festive race. Trained by Paul Nicholls, who also has Bravemansgame, plus his 2022 King George winner Frodon in the race, and will be looking for a remarkable 13th winner of the King George Chase.
This 6 year-old still has a lot of room for improvement being a young chaser and Nicholls won the King George Chase with a similar sort in Clan Des Obeaux, who was also 6. Hitman is part-owned by former Manchester United boss Alex Ferguson and will be hoping to hit the back of the net for backers this Boxing Day.
Was last seen winning easily at Haydock (watch below) and prior to that was only just tounched off in the Grade Two Old Roan Chase at Aintree. From his 11 starts over fences have won 5 and only been out of the top three once. Expected to be playing second fiddle to the other Nicholls runner in the King George – Bravemansgame – in term of the betting, but is only officially rated 4lbs lower than his stablemate and looks the value call with more in the locker to come.

Of those at a bigger price, Millers Bank, looks worth having a saver on too – if making the race. This Alex Hales-trained 8 year-old has a bit to find on the official ratings (155), but has returned this season in good order with two recent seconds including last time out at Huntingdon in the Peterborough Chase. Yes, the step up to 3m will be the slight unknown, but the flat Kempton track will help on that score, while he’s also proven at the Sunbury-on-Thames venue having won over hurdles here back in January 2021.
In fact Millers Bank’s overall record at Kempton is a decent one – 1-2-2 – so is yet to finish out of first two at the course.
