Cheltenham Day Two Tips: Wednesday 15th March 2023 – It’s Edwardstone vs Energumene vs Editeur Du Gite, Which ‘E’ Are You On?

Into Day two of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival and we’ve another seven races to look forward too with the Champion Chase at 3:30pm the big highlight. We should be in for a cracker too – with the ‘three E’s’ all doing battle. We’ve last year’s winner Energumene, plus the 2022 Arkle winner Edwardstone and the horse that beat them both last time Editeur Du Gite.

Cheltenham Festival 1-2-3 Best Bets on Day Two

1.30: Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle ITV4

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: Willie Mullins has a strong hand here so it’s interesting that jockey Paul Townend has opted to ride Impaire Et Passe. This 5 year-old has been many people’s idea of the winner of this day two opener for a while and it’s easy to see why. He’s won all three starts and was very impressive in his last start – a win in the G2 Moscow Flyer Novice Hurdle at Punchestown. He’s taken to see off stablemate Gaelic Warrior, with another prolific Irish winner – Good Land next best.

  • IMPAIRE ET PASSE
  • GAELIC WARRIOR
  • GOOD LAND

2.10: Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase ITV1

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: Gerri Colombe is yet to lose a race and last time was impressive again when winning the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase at Sandown. That came over 2m4f, but he looked better the further he went that day. With that in mind, the longer trip here will suit (3m 1/2f), as will the stiff finish. Last year’s Ballymore winner Sir Gerhard and the CD winner The Real Whacker can do best of the rest.

  • GERRI COLOMBE
  • THE REAL WHACKER
  • SIR GERHARD

2.50: Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle ITV1

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: Super-tough as always but a chance is taken on the Noel Meade runner- Beacon Edge (e/w). This Gigginstown runner sports the first-time blinkers and the last 4 winners all wore headgear. He was a fine third last time too – behind the Stayers’ Hurdle favourite Blazing Khal, which is rock-solid form. Add in connections booking Michael O’Sullivan to claim 3lbs is the icing on the cake. Run For Oscar, for the shrewd Charles Byrnes camp can get involved too, with Fil Dor for Elliott that has a good record in the race.

  • BEACON EDGE (e/w)
  • RUN FOR OSCAR
  • FIL DOR

3.30: Queen Mother Champion Chase ITV1

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: The feature race of he day looks to rest between three horses beginning with the letter ‘E’. However, of the bunch of E’s it’s last year’s Arkle Chase winner – Edwardstone – that edges it. This Alan King runner was an impressive winner of the Tingle Creek earlier this season and only just lost here in the Clarence House last time. Arkle winners have a good record of following up here too (7-12) and King can add to his win in this race from 2006 when Voy Por Ustedes won. Last year’s winner Energumene can go close too, while the 2021 runner-up Nube Nega looks overpriced.

  • EDWARDSTONE
  • ENERGUMENE
  • NUBE NEGRA

4.10: Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase ITV1

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: Last year’s winner – Delta Work – is the one to beat again and it will be a shock if he’s not going very close. But another Gordon Elliott runner – Galvin – is worth chancing to like these unique fences. This useful staying chaser is having his debut over the Cross Country track but has Festival-winning form. He won the NH Chase in 2021 over 3m6f and was 4th in the Gold Cup last year. He’s rated 7lbs higher than Delta Work and if taking to the fences will be hard to beat. Back On The Lash, who loves this course, can nick a place.

  • GALVIN
  • DELTA WORK
  • BACK ON THE LASH

4.50: Grand Annual Handicap Chase RTV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: Another race with many chances and JP McManus seems to hold a good hand again with Dinoblue and Andy Dufresne. But it’s Coeur Sublime that is getting the verdict after a close second at Naas last time. He was 7th in the Arkle last year too and runner up in the 2019 Triumph, so has Festival form. Still only 8 years-old and the useful Ben Harvey is booked to claim 5lbs. The Paul Nicholls-trained Thyme White is another to note, as is course winner Elixir De Nutz.

  • COEUR SUBLIME (e/w)
  • THYME WHITE
  • ELIXIR DE NUTZ

5.30: Champion Bumper RTV

SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 CHELTENHAM TIPS: A race we all know Willie Mullins love to win – he’s won the pot 12 times before. He’s got another big chance this year with the likes of It’s For Me, Fact To File and Fun Fun Fun, but it’s A Dream To Share that caught the eye last time. He won well at Leopardstown at the DRF and was then snapped-up by top owner JP McManus. That was his third win on the spin and is yet to taste defeat. It’s For Me, with Paul Townend riding can go best of the Mullins lot, while Jamie Codd and Gordon Elliott team up with Better Days Ahead. The pair won this in 2017 and 2019.

  • A DREAM TO SHARE
  • IT’S FOR ME
  • BETTER DAYS AHEAD
