A winner among Cheltenham Festival results is what everyone connected with the great sport of horse racing wants every year. It doesn’t matter whether you’re a racehorse owner, trainer, jockey or just a plain old punter placing bets on the big races. Cheltenham horse racing results make or break the entire jumps season for many interested parties.
It’s a time of year where if a lot of favourites feature as winners among Cheltenham results that the bookies and online betting sites can take a bit of a bashing. Not that it really hurts them. It follows that today’s Cheltenham results influences tomorrow’s betting. Win a recognised Festival trial and that horse is bound to shorten up with the bookmakers.
Cheltenham Festival Results 2023
Whether it’s Cheltenham results yesterday has to offer or the current campaign, who won and lost at the Festival sets the tone for the whole jumps season. Everything on horse racing betting sites is geared around Cheltenham from a British jumps perspective. Its importance cannot be understated, either to punters or the bookies.
Cheltenham horse racing results today influence other meetings and even next year’s Festival in a lot of cases. That is the great thing about an event which has built up its programme to suit its own ends. The Festival brings the same horses back, albeit often in different races as they get older and transition from hurdles to fences, year after year after year.
That is why Cheltenham racing results from yesterday, and horse racing results in general from this and the previous season, need careful study. We thought breaking down results at Cheltenham today day by day would be helpful in this regard. That’s what this guide is all about. Check out full Cheltenham results for each of the four days at the Festival below:
Cheltenham Day 1 Results
There are important Cheltenham results on Tuesday of the Festival when four Grade 1 races and one of the oldest events in the jumps code take place. Everything begins with the Supreme Novices’ Hurdle. Accompanying the start of this opening contest is the famous Cheltenham roar. Many enthusiastic punters live at the course create this raucous atmosphere.
One of the key Cheltenham Festival racing results from this card is the Champion Hurdle, the most prestigious race of its kind. The last of Cheltenham results on Tuesday is the 3m 6f Grade 2 marathon National Hunt Chase. Just before it is a juvenile handicap hurdle. All the true equine greats of hurdling have won this. From Postwar stars like National Spirit, Hatton’s Grace and Sir Ken to the next golden age that began with Persian War in the late 1960s through legendary battles between Comedy Of Errors, Night Nurse, Monksfield and Sea Pigeon, and the dominance of See You Then in the mid-1980s, this race is steeped in history.
Modern greats Istabraq, Hardy Eustace, Hurricane Fly and Buveur D’Air are all multiple winners of the Champion Hurdle. Racing results at Cheltenham don’t come any bigger than this on the opening day of the Festival. In recent years, mares have had a big influence as they receive a 7lb sex allowance from the geldings in this otherwise level weights contest. That isn’t lost on the bookies when pricing up their Champion Hurdle odds every season either.

A novice chase for amateur riders, the race distance changed from 4m to 3m 6f in 2020. Paying attention to Cheltenham odds is important here as this race produced a dual subsequent Grand National winner in Tiger Roll in 2017. The National Hunt Chase made Cheltenham its permanent home in 1911.

A fiendishly competitive handicap hurdle over 2m 5f, trainer Nicky Henderson has done particularly well in this race in recent years. Even though mares don’t receive the same benefits as in conditions races here, all Cheltenham betting sites know they also have a good record of late here.

Crisp is another famous early winner of the Champion Chase, while Royal Relief, Skymas and Hilly Way all victorious twice in the 1970s.
Badsworth Boy’s hat-trick in the mid-1980s remains a record here. Viking Flagship, Moscow Flyer, Master Minded, Sprinter Sacre and Altior are all dual modern Queen Mother Champion Chase winners, so multiple successes are quite common in the division. Keep that in mind Cheltenham race results today and the Queen Mother Champion Chase odds are clearly influenced by the previous year’s edition of this race, so careful study is important.

Only younger horses, those aged four to seven can compete in the Champion Bumper. You won’t see any older animals among Cheltenham horse results here in this particular race.
Cheltenham Results Day 3
With Cheltenham Thursday results, this card is often an unofficial St Patrick’s Day. Expect an Irish invasion both on and off the track. The first of the Cheltenham day 3 results is a Grade 1 novice chase with a registered title that recognised 1930s equine great Golden Miller. The Pertemps Final, meanwhile, is a 3m Grade 3 handicap hurdle that ends a series of qualifying races throughout the UK and Ireland.
One thing that makes Cheltenham results on day 3 special is there are not one but two feature races. The first of those in the 2m 4f Ryanair Chase. Following that, another of the big Thursday Cheltenham results is the 3m Stayers Hurdle. There are then a couple of handicaps in the Plate and Kim Muir either side of the Grade 2 Dawn Run Mares Novices Hurdle. View all the latest Cheltenham day 3 results here:

Famous past winners include Sir Des Champs, Vautour and Defi Du Seuil. The horse racing Cheltenham results from this event will only grow in stature as time goes by as it was only added to the Festival in 2011.

Like any Festival handicap, there are turnups.

Added to the Festival programme in 2005, only Albertas Run and Allaho to date have won this race more than once.
In more recent years, Cue Card, Un De Sceaux, Frodon and Min have added real quality to the Ryanair Chase roll of honour. Horse racing results at Cheltenham today include an increasingly prestigious penultimate card for the Festival because of the introduction of this race. Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP 1st Flooring Porter Danny Mullins Gavin Cromwell 2¾ lengths 4/1 2nd Thyme Hill Tom O’Brien Philip Hobbs nose 11/2 3rd Paisley Park Aidan Coleman Emma Lavelle 1¼ lengths 17/2 The most historic of Thursday Cheltenham results is the Stayers Hurdle. Called the World Hurdle for a decade between 2005 and 2015 when Ladbrokes sponsored the race, Paddy Power now partner the contest. First held in 1912, there is a gap in the lineage of the Stayers Hurdle from 1954 to 1971. Its modern renewals are best known for the exploits of four-time race winner Big Buck’s. Inglis Drever and Baracouda are other multiple winners in recent times.
Cheltenham full results show a number of big priced outsiders winning this since 1993 with 20/1, 40/1 and even 50/1 shots defying those big prices. Upsets happen in the Stayers Hurdle odds from time to time, especially in years where the market has an open feel to it. Many recent winners have been double figure prices, so consider that with Cheltenham racing results from yesterday and yesteryear here.

It’s a novice hurdle for mares over almost 2m 1f. Most of the past Cheltenham horse racing results here show Willie Mullins as training the winner. Introduced for the 2016 Festival, he saddled the first five successful in the Dawn Run Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle.

Introduced at Cheltenham after the end of the Second World War, Nicolaus Silver won this en route to Grand National glory in 1961. Ballabriggs, successful here in 2010, went on to win the world’s most famous steeplechase the following year.
Cheltenham Day 4 Results
And so to the Cheltenham Friday results at last. This is Gold Cup day and the Festival comes to a close with another terrific card. Beginning the Cheltenham day 4 results is the Triumph Hurdle, the top race for juvenile hurdlers in Britain. The County Hurdle, a handicap over the same course and distance, follows before the Albert Bartlett Novices’ Hurdle tests the stamina of the horses running in it.
Cheltenham Friday results are all about the Gold Cup itself really. This is the blue riband event of steeplechases over an extended 3m 2f. Amateur jockeys again get a chance to shine in the Festival Open Hunters Chase. The newest results at Cheltenham is the 2m4f Mares Chase. Rounding off the meeting every years is the Martin Pipe Conditional Jockeys Handicap Hurdle. Here are the last few Cheltenham Festival results to note:

Position Horse Jockey Trainer Distance SP 1st Vauban Paul Townend Willie Mullins 2½ lengths 6/4F 2nd Fil D’Or Davy Russell Gordon Elliott neck 11/2 3rd Pied Piper Jack Kennedy Gordon Elliott 4¾ lengths 7/2 Past racing results at Cheltenham show Persian War, Kribensis, Commanche Court, Katchit and Tiger Roll among famous Triumph Hurdle winners. Only four-year-olds can compete in the race, first held in 1939, so these are young horses with huge potential for the future. Runners must be forward in their development and often want much further than the extended two miles of this race when they’re older. Keep an eye on betting promotions and Cheltenham race results here with the future in mind, then.

However, that all changed in 2009 almost 90 years after its inauguration in 1920. It has been the second race on the Gold Cup card ever since. No horse has managed to win the County Hurdle more than once, showing you how tough it is to repeat in Festival handicaps. Expect big price winners and placed horses in Cheltenham racing results here with punters lauded if they can beat the bookies.

Previous Cheltenham races results are directly relevant here as there are graded trials for this event both at other meetings at the venue and around the UK and Ireland. It takes stamina and ability to win this Grade 1. Past horse racing results from Cheltenham show subsequent Gold Cup winners Bobs Worth and Minella Indo victorious in this before scaling event greater heights over fences.

More prestigious than the Grand National, this event dates back to 1924, so it’s a century of history, glory and drama. Golden Miller won it five times in the 1930s but the Postwar greats like Cottage Rake and Arkle really put the Gold Cup on the map. Cheltenham results yesterday can impact tomorrow in this blue riband steeplechase.
Best Mate is a modern era Gold Cup great, matching Arkle’s 1960s pomp with his own hat-trick in the early 2000s. Cheltenham results today in racing owe their significance in the whole sport due to legendary clashes here. Some of the finest horses to have ever graced the track enjoyed Gold Cup glory like Desert Orchid, Kauto Star and many more. A top trainer who dominated his era in the UK, this race entered the meeting in 2009. Willie Mullins often targets one of his best horses at the race, so that’s something to think about. That is all for Cheltenham race results today with the curtain falling at the Festival after this.
The Importance of Live Cheltenham Results

That means you have to think like the bookies in how you approach the outcome of races. Cheltenham live results take on a much wider significance than if you’ve won or lost with your wagers on a particular Festival race. The implications are far greater than than.
