State Man Champion Hurdle Odds

The fourth race of the 2023 Cheltenham Festival gets underway on Tuesday 14th March. The race takes place at 3.30pm, with the Champions Hurdle taking centre stage. This Grade 1 race is one of the biggest on the opening day of the Festival, and there are some fantastic horses on show here.

One of the standout horses in the Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy is the Willie Mullins trained State Man.

The 6-year-old gelding currently sits as the second favourite at odds of around 3/1 with the best horse racing betting sites to win. State Man boasts a six race winning run coming into the Champion Hurdle, including a win here last year at the Festival.

His solo run at Cheltenham came last year when he won by an impressive length-and-a-quarter to First Street in the Grade 3 County Handicap Hurdle. If he can replicate that kind of run again here, we could see a similar story with State Man putting it right up to Constitution Hill in an intriguing battle.

Jockey Paul Townend will likely be in the saddle on State Man – a horse and jockey partnership that has been particularly fruitful in the past. Due to his performance last year at the Cheltenham Festival and his last few runs, State Man is rightfully the biggest threat to the favourite in the betting market.

Willie Mullins will be confident of a win for State Man and he certainly looks a strong horse and the closest challenger to Constitution Hill here in the Champion Hurdle.

With Constitution Hill potentially going into the Champion Chase as the shortest-priced horse in the race ever, State Man could well go under the radar. He is a supremely competent horse, and has looked unbeatable in recent runs which is backed up by his Cheltenham odds.

This looks like a two horse race on paper, but another Mullins’ horse in Vauban could potentially throw a spanner in the works too. However, for now it looks like State Man is Constitution Hill’s biggest threat here in the Champion Hurdle.

Mullins’ 6-year-old is second favourite in the betting market, with fellow legendary trainer Nicky Henderson also entering his shining star in Constitution Hill in the fourth race on Day 1 in the Champion Hurdle.
