2023 Champion Hurdle Runners Headed by Red-Hot Favourite Constitution Hill

Last year’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle runaway winner Constitution Hill is just one of only seven 2023 Champion Hurdle runners. The final declaration stage has seen the Nicky Henderson-trained hot-pot hold his ground and @ 1/3 with BetUK in the betting will be the big day one Cheltenham Festival banker.

This will be the first Champion Hurdle wil less than 8 runners, with the hot favourite seemingly scared them all off. Including the winner of the last two – Honeysuckle – who will go to the Mares’ Hurdle instead.

Constitution Hill is yet to lose a race – winning all five starts by an total of 77 lengths. If successful, he’ll be trainer Nicky Henderson’s nineth Champion Hurdle winner and could also break a few other interesting stats.

If returning at 4/11 or shorter, Constitution Hill will become the shortest-priced Champion Hurdle winner ever. While he’d also be the first Supreme Hurdle winner to follow-up in the Champion Hurdle since Bula in 1971.

Can State Man Cause the Upset?

The Willie Mullins-trained State Man will be the biggest threat to Constitution Hill. He impressed to win the Irish Champion Hurdle last time and has a Festival history after winning the County Hurdle last term. He’s won his last 6 and will be the biggest test Constitution Hill has faced. However, the Henderson horse is expected by many to just have too many gears and pick off State Man turning for home.
