Andrew heads Chester (day two of the May meeting) and Huntingdon for his four stats-based selections on Thursday, May 9th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below..

HUNTINGDON 1.50

MAMMIES BOY (system – Jonjo O’Neill, handicap hurdles, Huntingdon)

Jonjo O’Neill has an 11 from 37 record with his handicap hurdlers at Huntingdon in the past five years (29.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £12.93 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 6.61, A/E = 1.66) and MAMMIES BOY, a winner on good ground at Taunton on his penultimate start, will appreciate the quicker surface after his modest fifth on good to soft going at Market Rasen last time.

CHESTER 2.05

SIMPLY BLUE (system – Blue Point colts/geldings on debut)

Male progeny of the sire Blue Point have a 15 from 66 record (22.7% strike-rate) for a profit of £56.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. SIMPLY BLUE, a £180,000 purchase from the Goffs UK Premier Yearlings sale last summer, is taken to make a winning debut from a reasonable draw in stall 5.

HUNTINGDON 2.25

BLUEBELLA (system – Tom Lacey, handicap hurdles)

Handicap hurdles are some of the most competitive races that take place over jumps and it’s rare for a trainer to show a profit in such contests, especially from a large sample size. Tom Lacey has bucked the trend during his training career, sending out 134 winners from 607 runners (22.1% strike-rate) for a profit of £150.63 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners = 102.07, A/E = 1.31). BLUEBELLA reportedly lost a shoe when only fifth of 14 at Uttoxeter last time (7-2 favourite) and is worth another chance.

HUNTINGDON 4.00

STREAMSFORTH LAD (system – Oliver Greenall & Josh Guerriero, Class 5 handicap chases, fresh)

The Greenall & Guerriero yard does well in low-grade (Class 5) handicap chases, especially with fresh horses. Those returning from a break of at least six weeks are 15 from 52 since the beginning of 2020 for a profit of £70.70 to a £1 level stake at SP. The last two qualifiers have won at 11-2 and 3-1 and perhaps STREAMSFORTH LAD can get the hat-trick up on his first start since leaving the Gary Hanmer yard.
