Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Tuesday: 4:35pm Market Rasen – MONAGHAN BOY

The Micky Hammond-trained MONAGHAN BOY has been hitting the crossbar in recent runs with seconds at Hexham and Catterick.

These runs will make him popular here in what looks an average heat. However, the fact remains this 7 year-old is still 14 races without a win, while those last two runs came on softer ground than he’s likely to get today at Market Rasen.

Monaghan Boy has also been raised a pound in the handicap from last time so is racing off a slightly higher rating than those last two runs, plus even though there are a few questions about the others too – we’ll still have five others with chances running for us. Including proven CD winner Benny Baloo.

The final negative is that he’s not always been the most fluent over his fences, while the fact connections keep chopping and changing his trip suggests they are still working out what best suits him in terms of yardage.

We’ve more horse racing free tips here – including our daily NAP of the Day and Lucky 15 selections.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.

With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.

This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.

For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.

If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).

See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.

You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
