The long-awaited return of the star Willie Mullins-trained Allaho is almost over as the 9 year-old is running today in the Clonmel Oil Chase (2:50pm) – returning after a 561-day absence.
Allaho Looking To Give Willie Mullins His Eighth Clonmel Oil Chase Win
Horse racing fans last saw Allaho winning the 2022 Punchestown Gold Cup (watch below) – beating the two-time Kempton King George winner Clan Des Obeaux by a staggering 14 lengths.
Prior to that he landed the 2022 Ryanair Chase, with Janidil way back in second, but since these two races a few seasons ago the Willie Mullins star chaser has been on the sidelines with injury.
The Cheveley Park connections have been patient with him and with the Mullins camp nursing him back to fitness – he’s back today in the Clonmel Oil Chase at 2:50pm as he warms up for a possible tilt at the King George VI Chase on Boxing Day.
This Clonmel Grade 2 chase is run over a trip of 2m 4 1/2f and it’s a prize the Mullins team are no strangers to winning – they’ve landed the pot seven times over the years, including 12 months ago with Blue Lord.
Other big Mullins names to grace the Clonmel Oil hall-of-fame are Douvan (2019), Kemboy (2018) and Champagne Fever (2014).
It’s also been a kind race for jockey Paul Townend with four past successes – no spoiler to tell you these have all been for Mullins too with all of the above-mentioned horses. Townend will ride Allaho today.

Allaho 8/1 For The King George VI Chase On Boxing Day
A win for Allaho today in the Clonmel Oil Chase could then also see the Willie Mullins chaser head to Kempton on Boxing Day for the Ladbrokes King George VI Chase, where he’s a general 8/1 hot with the best UK bookmakers.
