Auguste Rodin Supported into New 2023 Epsom Derby Favourite
Trainer Aidan O’Brien has won the Epsom Derby eight times – more than any other handler in the history of the race. Therefore, it’s no real shock that his main hope this year – AUGUSTE RODIN – has been the subject of plenty of midweek support and is now the new 2023 Epsom Derby favourite @ 7/2 with some of the best horse racing betting sites.
We last saw this talented Deep Impact colt flopping in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket in early May as favourite, but many punters feel the O’Brien horse, who had won his three previous starts, will improve significantly for the step up in trip.
All Auguste Rodin’s runs to date have been over 7f or 1m, but his breeding and looking to get outpaced last time in the Guineas indicate that he could be ready for the Derby trip of 1m4f. His sire Deep Impact was a classy 1m2f horse, while his Dam’s site Galileo was O’Brien’s first ever Derby winner back in 2001, so winning this English Classic runs in Auguste Rodin’s family.
Having been as big as 5/1 with some UK bookmakers a few days ago has now been backed into around 3/1 and 11/4 in places, which has seen him move to the head of the market as the current 2023 Epsom Derby favourite.

Military Order Drifts Out Slightly In The Derby Betting
With Auguste Rodin being backed and the new market leader, this has meant the old Derby favourite Military Order has drifted in the betting slightly.
This Godolphin runner, who impressed in winning the Lingfield Derby Trial last time out, has walked out to 9/2 with some UK bookmakers.
Some horse racing judges are putting this drift down to the below-par form at the moment of Military Order’s trainer Charlie Appleby. At the time of writing (Weds, 31st May) the yard has sent out just 2 winners from their last 24 runners and from those entries have seen 12 favourites lose too.
Passenger and Arrest Solid In The Betting As Third Favourites
Just behind Auguste Rodin and Military Order in the Derby betting market is the Sir Michael Stoute-trained Passenger and the Frankie Dettori-ridden Arrest.
Passenger has been supplemented at a cost of ÂŁ85k by his connections and will be trying to give Stoute back-to-back Derby wins after he won the race in 2022 with Desert Crown. He was last seen running on to take third in the Dante Stakes after not getting the clearest of runs. If successful Passenger will be Stoute’s seventh Derby winner.
Arrest will also be popular with a certain Frankie Dettori set to ride this John Gosden runner. It will be Frankie’s last ride in the Derby as he’s retiring at the end of this season. This Frankel-colt was an easy winner of the Chester Vase last time out and will be hoping to give his rider a fairy tale ending in a race he’s won twice in the past.
