Epsom Horse Racing Tips 1-2-3 Selections On Derby Day
12:50 – Betfred Diomed Stakes (Group 3) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m½f ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM RACING TIPS: Godolphin’s Highland Avenue sets the standard in the opener on Derby Day after a fine third in the G3 Gordon Richards Stakes to the 2021 Derby winner Adayar. With that coming off a 428 day break he can be expected to have improved for the run too while the drop back in trip will suit too. The Ryan Moore-ridden Regal Reality can go well too and at a bigger price Imperial Fighter is interesting in a race the Andrew Balding yard have a fair record in.
- HIGHLAND AVENUE
- REGAL REALITY
- IMPERIAL FIGHTER
1:30 – Betfred Derby (Group 1) (British Champions Series) (No Geldings) Cl1 (3yo) 1m4f ITV
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM RACING TIPS: The Derby is being run earlier this year, so not to clash with the FA Cup Final at 3pm. It’s an open-looking race this season too, with cases to be made for many. However, the lightly-raced Passenger just edges it for us after looking an unlucky third in the Dante Stakes last time out.
This Stoute runner didn’t get the best of runs in the closing stages but stayed on well to take third and over this longer trip can gain his revenge on The Foxes and White Birch, who were 1st and 2nd that day. Passenger will also be representing last year’s winning stable and jockey, with Richard Kingscote doing the steering.
Of the rest, 2000 Guineas flop Auguste Rodin looks Aidan O’Brien’s best chance of getting a nineth Derby win with the step up in trip likely to suit, but does need to bounce back. While Dante Stakes winner The Foxes is still respected with that York race often a good guide towards the Derby – 5 horses in the last 20 years have won both, including Desert Crown last season. Plus, Lingfield Derby Trial winner Military Order has done little wrong in his races and showed a lot of guts to win the last day. We know he stays this 1m4f trip too and Godolphin have also won 2 of the last 5 runnings of the Derby.
- PASSENGER
- MILITARY ORDER
- THE FOXES

2:10 – Princess Elizabeth Stakes (Group 3) (Fillies & Mares) Cl1 (3yo+) 1m½f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM HORSE RACING TIPS: This is a race the Cheveley Park gang love to target and so Potapova, with Ryan Moore riding is the pick. This Stoute runner needs to bounce back from being pulled up at Goodwood last month but that was her first run back for 225 days and last season had good form Group races to suggest she’s worth sticking with. The top-rated Prosperous Voyage, with Frankie riding, should go close too, with the consistent Astral Beau respected too.
- POTAPOVA
- PROSPEROUS VOYAGE
- ASTRAL BEAU
2:45 – Aston Martin 3YO “Dash'” Handicap Cl3 (3yo 0-90) 5f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM HORSE RACING TIPS: A new race to the Derby Day schedule and a chance is taken with the Andrew Balding runner Estate. This 3 year-old won by a neck at Salisbury last time out, but ran on well that day to suggest there is more to come. The yard boasts a decent 23% record with their 3 year-olds at the track and top jockey Oisin Murphy is the icing on the cake. Russet Gold, with the useful Harry Davies taking off 3lbs, and John Quinn’s Jm Jungle are others to note.
- ESTATE (e/w)
- RUSSET GOLD
- JM JUNGLE
3:20 – Aston Martin “Dash” Handicap (Heritage Handicap) Cl2 (3yo+) 5f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM HORSE RACING TIPS: The 5f track at Epsom is deemed one of the fastest in the world – so luck in-running will be key here. Live In The Moment was 8th in the race last year but is back on a 3lb lower mark and gets in this time with just 8-6 in racing weight. He was also a close runner-up last time at Doncaster on just his second run back this season so will be spot-on for this. Angle Land for Robert Cowell and the 2021 winner of the race Mokaatil can get in the shake-up too.
- LIVE IN THE MOMENT (e/w)
- ANGLE LAND
- MOKAATIL
3:55 – Betfred Lester Piggott Handicap Cl2 (3yo 0-100) 1m2f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM HORSE RACING TIPS: With the Andrew Balding yard having won 3 of the last 5 runnings of this Kadovar is worth sticking with. This 3 year-old is also a proven course winner which is always a plus here and William Buick catches the eye in the saddle. Yes, softer ground might have been better, but connections must feel the quicker ground will be fine to be running him. Gosden’s Maasai Mara is another to consider, as is Balance Play for Ralph Beckett
- KADOVAR (e/w)
- MAASAI MARA
- BALANCE PLAY

4:30 – Rio Ferdinand Foundation Northern Dancer Handicap Cl2 (4yo+ 0-105) 1m4f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM HORSE RACING TIPS: Course and distance winner Caius Chorister is the pick here after returning at the end of April to run a close second at the track. She’s been kept fresh for this since and top jockey Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle. Her form at the Surrey track now reads 1-1-2 so clearly loves the venue and will love the quicker ground here too. Sea King for the in-form Sir Mark Prescott yard can’t be ruled out either, while another CD winner in the field Scampi comes here in red-hot form too after a nice win at York.
- CAIUS CHORISTER
- SEA KING
- SCAMPI
5:05 – JRA Tokyo Trophy Handicap Cl2 (4yo+ 0-105) 6f ITV4
SPORTSLENS 1-2-3 EPSOM HORSE RACING TIPS: Mr Wagyu won this race 12 months ago and is respected back again, plus Apollo One will be better for a recent third at Newmarket and catches the eye. But the nod goes to the Channon-trained Indian Creak who has a good record at the Epsom track. His form here reads 1-2-2, plus comes here fit and well after four runs already since April (1 win). He’s got a nice racing weigh of 8-11 and Rose Dawes, who gets on well with the horse, take off a valuable 5lbs again.
- INDIAN CREAK (e/w)
- MR WAGYU
- APOLLO ONE
