Wolves vs Sheffield United Preview

Gary O’Neil’s Wolves are hunting down the last of the European places. His side sit 11th in the Premier League table, but just three points separate them and 7th-placed Brighton.

They have beaten both Tottenham and Chelsea on the road in recent weeks, but fell to a 2-0 home defeat against Brentford on 10 February.

With Wolves chasing Europa League football, they will need maximum points against the league’s bottom club on Sunday.

Sheffield United are enduring a torrid campaign on their return to the top flight. The Blades have won just three games all season, most recently beating Luton 3-1 away from home on 10 February.

But their 5-0 hammering at home to Brighton last weekend summed up their year, as Mason Holgate’s 13th-minute red card on debut scuppered any chance of a meaningful contest.

With eight points between them and safety, and a goal difference of -43, relegation seems the most likely outcome.

And this is no more apparent than in this weekend’s football betting odds, which put Sheffield United as 61/10 underdogs at Wolves.

Wolves vs Sheffield United Team News

Wolves Team News

With Hwang Hee-chan returning to the side against Spurs, fellow forward Matheus Cunha is the only Wolves player confirmed to be missing Sunday’s game.

The Brazilian has no estimated return date as he continues to recover from a serious hamstring issue.

Manager Gary O’Neil admitted after the Tottenham clash that several players were carrying niggles, but nothing serious enough to affect selection.

After a slow start in which he didn’t score in his first 20 Premier League games, Joao Gomes is off the mark for Wolves. The 23-year-old is expected to once again partner Mario Lemina in midfield for the midlands club.

Wolves possible starting lineup:

Sa; Kilman, Toti, Dawson; Semedo, Lemina, Gomes, Ait-Nouri; Neto, Hwang, Sarabia

Sheffield United Team News

Things are less rosey for Sheffield United. Red carded debutant Mason Holgate faces a three-game ban, and joins injured centre-backs Chris Basham and John Egan (both ankle) on the sidelines.

Former Arsenal man Auston Trusty may well be back in the side with season-ending injuries to other players. Both Max Lowe (ankle) and Rhys Norrington-Davies (hamstring) have been ruled out for the foreseeable.

In better news, George Baldock is potentially back available after an unspecified issue. But both Cameron Archer (calf) and Ben Brereton Diaz (thigh) are doubts, while Daniel Jebbison remains out with a long-term issue.

Sheffield United possible starting lineup:

Grbic; Trusty, Ahmedhodzic, Robinson; Bogle, Souza, Hamer, Davies, Larouci; McAtee, Archer
