Kitty’s Light Is the Current 2023 Scottish Grand National Favourite
Twelve months ago, the Welsh trainer Christian Williams went north of the border to win the Scottish Grand National after his 9 year-old Win My Wings landed the 4m contest as the co-favourite.
It was the first win in the race for Williams, but he could be adding to that tally as soon as this Saturday as he’s got the current 2023 Scottish Grand National favourite – KITTY’S LIGHT @ 9/2.
The 7 year-old has been installed as the market leader for Saturday’s £112,ooo Ayr marathon by the best horse racing betting sites and it’s easy to see why.
Kitty’s Light was last seen winning the Eider Chase on 25th February – staying on well to get the job done by 2 1/2 lengths that day at Newcastle races.

Since that Newcastle win, the handicapper has raised Kitty’s Light 8lbs, but connections have kept the horse fresh with a 56-day break to recover.
Staying is clearly Kitty’s Light main asset – winning that day over 4m 1 1/2f – and the further he went the better he looked. Yes, his jumping is still to be fine-tuned but he seems to be able to get from A-to-B, while he’s yet to fall or unseat in a race.
Kitty’s Light Taking the Same Path As 2022 Scottish National Winner Wing My Wins
If it isn’t broke, don’t fix it. The other eye-catching thing to note is that this year’s Scottish Grand National favourite – Kitty’s Light – is also taking the same route as the 2022 hero Win My Wings.
As mentioned, both are trained by Christian Williams, but Win My Wings also won the Eider Chase before heading for glory at Ayr, so the yard will be looking to repeat the exact same feat with Kitty’s Light.
While Kitty’s Light also has Scottish Grand National history, having run second in the race 12 months ago. He returns on a 3lb lower mark this time and will carry 8lb less in racing weight.

Monbeg Genius Challenging For The Favourites Berth
The Jonjo O’Neill-trained Monbeg Genius could, however, end up as the 2023 Scottish Grand National favourite come 3:35pm on Saturday.
In recent days there’s been a lot of support for the Ultima Handicap Chase third, probably due to the winner of that Cheltenham Festival race – Corach Rambler – winning last week’s Aintree Grand National and boosting the form.
