After their blistering start to life back in the second tier, many will be wondering – which Leicester City players will be playing at AFCON next month?

The side have often been affected by Africa Cup of Nations participation over the years, so read on to see who they will be missing this time around and which games they will be absent for. With the likes of Riyad Mahrez playing in blue in the past, Foxes fans never look forward to the competition that takes place every two seasons.

Leicester have been excellent in the Championship so far this campaign since their relegation from the Premier League and currently sit top, six points clear of Ipswich.

When Is The Africa Cup Of Nations?

The Africa Cup of Nations gets underway on January 13th 2024 and the final will be played on February 11th. It is being hosted by Ivory Coast for just a second time and the first since 1984. The conclusion of the competition will take place at the Alassane Ouattara Stadium in Abidjan.

Which Leicester City Players Could Be Involved At AFCON?

Both Wilfred Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho are set to be part of Nigeria‘s squad, who take part in their 21st edition of the tournament in search of a fourth title.

The iconic Foxes duo have been an integral part of the squad over the years and will be a huge miss when they jet off to Ivory Coast in January.

Patson Daka will represent Zambia who are going into their first AFCON since 2015, and with the former RB Salzburg striker hitting some form, the tournament comes at the wrong time for the East Midlands outfit. Daka has scored four goals in just five games since making his first league start under Enzo Maresca.

The fourth and final Leicester player set to take part is Abdul Fatawu for Ghana. Having impressed massively since his loan move from Sporting Lisbon to the King Power Stadium, the 19-year-old’s spark has been key in their strong start to the season.

How Many Games Could The Leicester City Stars Miss Due To AFCON?

At such a busy time in the season as we pass the half-way stages, games are coming thick and fast. The four Foxes players could miss up to six Championship games and an FA Cup tie away to Millwall, who they beat 3-2 in the league in mid-December.

The quadruple should be in contention for the New Years Day meeting against Huddersfield, but will likely miss the next seven and you can find those fixtures below (all 2024).
