Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Friday: 2:55pm Southwell – MINNIEMUM
The Henry Daly-trained MINNIEMUM would have won last time out, if she’d not unseated at the last when 4 lengths clear at Catterick.
Therefore, there will be a lot of punters looking to wade in here for her next race at Southwell on Friday and, to be honest, it’s easy to see why.
But, the fact remains, this 7 year-old mare is still to win a race, from 11 tries and it’s also an unknown just how that unseat has impacted her.
She had 12st that day, so showed she can carry a big weight, which she’ll have again – but annoyingly for connections the handicapper raised her 5lbs from last time and she didn’t even win.
Trip and track are fine, as is the slightly quicker ground. However, the Daly camp also haven’t had a winner in their last 12 and at the track are just two from their last 20 runners (1-from-11 hurdles).
In contrast the Lavelle (20%), O’Brien (25%) and Pipe (21%) teams all have good SR over hurdles here and run Do You Think, Tequila Blaze and Ya Know Yaseff, which we’ll all have running for us.
Overall, it’s clear why the best UK horse racing betting sites will have Minniemum has the likely favourite here, but a 5lb rise for not winning last time looks harsh and she’s still a horse that’s yet to get her head in front.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?
In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.
With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.
This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.
For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.
If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).
