Andy Newton’s ‘LAY OF THE DAY’ Horse Racing Tip On Friday: 3:47pm Lingfield – MONSIEUR FANTAISIE

The Friday faniced horse that has a several question marks is the Archie Watson runner – MONSIEUR FANTAISE.

This 6 year-old is one of the oldest in this Classified Stakes Lingfield race and with that is also one of the most experienced with 31 runs.

However, from that tally of career runs, this gelding has recorded just ONE win. That came back in January 2022, so over two years ago and is also now on a 21-race losing stretch.

Yes, this is a dire race and that should see him in the mix but backing a horse that’s got just one career win from 31 and is on a 21 race losing run, this hardly fills me with confidence.

The final smaller negative is that he’s only raced once here at Lingfield, which came three runs back, and ended up being slowly away and finishing 8th (or 11).

Okay, Luke Morris takes over in the saddle too and is the only jockey to get a win out of this horse, but he’s also been beaten five times too.

Overall, at the odds, there seems little downside in looking elsewhere for the first past the post and with a massive six proven course and distance winners in the line-up we’ll have all of these running for us.

What Is Lay Betting On Horse Racing?

In short lay betting is to bet on something NOT to happen.

With the introduction of betting exchanges like Betfair, punters can now bet on a horse or a team NOT to win by effectively becoming a bookmaker.

This can be done by staking against a horse or team on a betting exchange.

For example, if you think a horse won’t win a race and it’s 3.00 (2/1). Then you could lay this horse for £10.

If the horse loses, you will win £10 (less any set commission). Or if the horse wins you will have to pay out £20 (just like a bookmaker would).

See below another example – if you were to oppose Galopin Des Champs at 2.80 for £10.

You can see the liability if the horse wins would be £18. Or if the horse loses you will win £10 (less any commission).
