Is Tiger Woods Playing In The 151st Open Championship?
Unfortunately for Tiger Woods fans, he WON’T feature at the 151st Open Championship this week. The three-time recipient of the Claret Jug picked up an injury to his ankle at The Masters in April and hasn’t competed on the golf course since.
Although he made the cut and completed three rounds at Augusta, he was forced to withdraw after 54 holes at the 2023 Masters due to his ongoing injury struggles. The post-traumatic arthritis to his ankle required surgery which could keep him out for the remainder of the season.
Last year, the 47-year-old made his return to golf after over a year out due to injuries sustained in a car crash in February 2021. Woods was hospitalised in serious, but stable condition and underwent emergency surgery.
Before playing in the 2022 Masters, he declared that his full-time career as a professional golfer was over but would continue to play the majors.
Woods finished in a tie for 45th place at the Genesis Invitational in February, shooting an overall score of 283 (-1) and successfully making the cut. He has only appeared at three events in 2023 however, and this latest setback has cast doubt over whether he’ll feature on the circuit at all this term.
There is no doubt that Woods will be distraught at the fact that he won’t have the chance of winning his 16th major championship this week. It is unknown as to when, or indeed if, we will see Tiger Woods back competing on the golf course.
