Cheltenham Festival Bankers on Day One: It’s All About Constitution Hill

Constitution Hill is one of the Fighting Fifth Hurdle 2022 entries at Newcastle

2:10 pm Sporting Life Arkle Challenge Trophy Novices’ Chase (Grade 1): EL FABIOLO @ 13/8 with BetUK – 2-from-2 over fences this season and last seen romping away with the Irish Arkle at the Dublin Racing Festival. Jonbon to beat but will be all the rage to give trainer Willie Mullins his fifth Arkle win since 2015.

3:30 pm Unibet Champion Hurdle Challenge Trophy (Grade 1): CONSTITUTION HILL @ 1/3 with BetUK – Last season’s Supreme Novices’ Hurdle winner that is now 5-from-5 over the sticks. Billed as ‘a monster’ and even though the Irish Champion Hurdler State Man looks a worthy challenger, Constitution Hill will be many people’s ‘Super Banker‘ at the 2023 Cheltenham Festival.

4:10 pm Close Brothers Mares’ Hurdle (Registered as the David Nicholson) (Grade 1): HONEYSUCKLE @ 9/4 with BetUK – Two-time Champion Hurdle winner but lost her unbeaten record this season. Age might be catching up with her, so connections have opted for the potentially easier Mares’ Hurdle option – a race she won back in 2020. This is expected to be her last ever race, so can Honeysuckle ‘buzz off’ into the sunset with a final win?

5:30pm National Hunt Chase (Challenge Cup Amateur Jockeys Novices’ Chase) (Grade 2): GAILLARD DU MESNIL @ 11/10 with BetUK – Trainer Wille Mullins has won this race three times since 2013 and has a big chance of adding to that. Third to Mighty Potter last time is solid form, especially now dropped in grade here and having run third in the Irish Grand National in 2022 we know he stays this 3m6f trip well.

DAY ONE CHELTENHAM ACCA: Back El Fabiolo, Constitution Hill, Honeysuckle & Gaillard Du Mesnil @ 23/1 with BetUK

Cheltenham Festival Bankers on Day Two: Delta Work All The Rage For Cross Country Double

2:10 pm Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase (Registered as the Broadway Novices’ Chase) (Grade 1): GERRI COLOMBE @ 6/4 with BetUK – One of the big Gordon Elliott Cheltenham runners that has improved this season to win all three starts over fences. The last came in the Grade One Scilly Isles Chase at Sandown and looks the sort to improve again now upped in trip.

3:30pm Betway Queen Mother Champion Chase (Grade 1): ENERGUMENE @ 15/8 with BetUK – Won the Queen Mother Champion Chase 12 months ago and hopes to join the gang of ‘back-to-back’ winners of this race that include Altior and Master Minded. Does, however need to bounce back from a defeat in the Clarence House last time out and even though will be a banker for many on day two will face a strong challenge from Edwardstone and Editeur Du Gite, who both finished in front of him last time.

4:10pm Glenfarclas Chase (a Cross Country Chase) (Class 2): DELTA WORK @ 11/10 with BetUK – Landed this race last season and went onto run a cracking third in the Grand National. Third over this course at the end of January – giving weight away – but back off level weights will be all the rage to defend his Cross-Country crown.

DAY TWO CHELTENHAM TREBLE: Back Gerri Colombe, Energumene & Delta Work @ 14/1 with BetUK

Cheltenham Festival Bankers on Day Three: Mighty Potter Expected To Fire

mighty potter

1:30pm Turners Novices’ Chase (Registered as the Golden Miller) (Grade 1): MIGHTY POTTER @ 11/10 with BetUK – Fair hurdler but has made into a better chaser – winning all three starts this season. The last came in the Grade One Ladbrokes Novice Chase at Leopardstown – winning easily by 8 1/2 lengths. Looks the ideal sort for this race and expected to take all the beating for the day three Cheltenham banker punters.

Ryanair Chase (Registered as as the Festival Trophy) (Grade 1): SHISHKIN @ 4/6 with BetUK – Won the 2021 Arkle Chase, but flopped in last year’s Champion Chase. Has been in the last chance saloon since, but bounced back to form with a win in the Ascot Chase last time out. The step up in trip that day clearly suited and since has been all the rage in the betting of the Ryanair Chase, especially with the 2-time winner Allaho out.

4:50pm Jack De Bromhead Mares’ Novices’ Hurdle (Registered as the Dawn Run) (Grade 2): LUCCIA @ 6/4 with BetUK – A race that’s been dominated by trainer Willie Mullins – winning 5 of the 7 runnings. However, this year the Nicky Henderson yard will be hoping to get in the winners’ circle with their classy mare Luccia. She’s 4-from-4 to date and has impressed in winning both starts over hurdles this season.

DAY THREE CHELTENHAM TREBLE: Back Mighty Potter, Shiskin & Luccia @ 8/1 with BetUK

Cheltenham Festival Bankers on Day Four: Galopin De Champs The Hot Gold Cup Favourite

galopin des champs

1:30pm JCB Triumph Hurdle (Grade 1): LOSSIEMOUTH @ 15/8 with BetUK – Lost her unbeaten record at Leopardstown last time out but wasn’t given the best of rides that day. Met a lot of traffic during the race but still ran on well to take second. Expected to turn around that form with the winner Gala Marceau, who got first run, while the stiff Cheltenham finish also looks a big plus in her favour.

3:30pm Cheltenham Gold Cup Chase (Grade 1): GALOPIN DES CHAMPS @ 13/8 with BetUK – Fell late on in the Turners Novices’ Chase last season with the race in the bag. But has bounced back since and been all the ‘hot-pot’ for the Gold Cup this season. Has justified that position in the betting by winning the John Durkin Memorial Chase at Punchestown and last time the Irish Gold Cup at Leopardstown. This will be the furthest he’s gone, but his running style indicates he’ll be better for the longer trip and will certainly be carrying the bulk of the Gold Cup bets.

4:50pm Mrs Paddy Power Mares’ Chase (Registered as the Liberthine Mares’ Chase) (Grade 2): ALLEGORIE DE VASSY @ 11/8 & IMPERVIOUS both @ 15/8 with BetUK – Looks a two-horse ‘girl power’ battle for this Mares’ Chase as the Willie Mullins-trained Allegorie De Vassy and the Colm Murphy runner Impervious (JP McManus) should be winning this one. It’s ‘take your pick’ stuff, as cases can be made for them both after nice wins this season. But for the purpose of sticking our neck out, the Mullins yard have won both runnings of this race to date, so his Allegorie De Vassy just gets the nod.

DAY FOUR CHELTENHAM TREBLE: Back Lossiemouth, Galopin Des Champs & Allegorie De Vassy @ 17/1 with BetUK
