The first race of the Ebor Festival will be a thriller for sure, and the first selection in our York Lucky 15 tips on Wednesday is JM JUNGLE. John Quinn’s charge is having a great season so far and is seeking a hat-trick in this one.
Jason Hart remains aboard having saddled him every time he has won so far and this three-year-old will certainly not be too far away once again. It is an open wide race but last time out JM Jungle did everything right, and the surface should suit too given his solid form on good-to-firm ground.
He is a versatile sort having won on soft at Goodwood when seen last and winning on quick ground at Haydock prior to that. This handy sprinter has finished in the top three in six of his seven races so far this season and alongside Highfield Princess is one of John Quinn’s leading chances this week.
2:25pm Tattersalls Acomb Stakes Group 3 7f ITV: Ballymount Boy @ 9/4
BALLYMOUNT BOY is the second selection in our York Lucky 15 Tips on Wednesday after three solid runs to start his career. He was second to Vandeek when seen last at Goodwood losing by just one length, and Simon and Ed Crisford’s colt went on to win the Prix Morny at Deauville in his next race.
This son of Camacho was only beaten a neck on debut before landing his first win at Hamilton in his second race. After the superb run behind Vandeek last time out in Group 2 company, there is clear promise for Aidrian Keatley’s two-year-old in this Group 3 contest.
3:00pm Sky Bet Great Voltigeur Stakes Group 2 1m4f ITV: Gregory @ 5/4
The third selection in our Lucky 15 is GREGORY, and this unbeaten son of Golden Horn has every chance of making it four wins from four runs. John and Thady Gosden team up with Frankie Dettori once again with the Queen’s Vase winner improving every race.
No yard has a better record in this race in recent times than the Gosden stable, who have won it five times since 2007. Gregory found plenty over a slightly longer trip at Royal Ascot last time out, and this drop down to 1m4f should suit perfectly.
Winning this St Leger trial could shorten Gregory’s price even more for the Doncaster Classic in September, where he is currently priced at around 9/4. He has what it takes to defy a 3lb penalty, and is the one to beat under the Dettori charge.

Completing our York Lucky 15 tips on Wednesday is PILLOW TALK. Karl Burke’s filly is one of three course and distance winners in this 14-runner handicap, after winning here as a juvenile in May last year.
Burke, Danny Tudhope and Clipper Logistics won this race with Lady In France back in 2020 and connections will hope for a big run from Pillow Talk this time around. Tudhope is in great form and is operating at a 30% strike rate in the last 14 days, with 13 winners from 44 rides.
This three-year-old clearly enjoys a run at York having finished second her under Clifford Lee earlier on this season. Pillow Talk was a close third at Pontefract when seen last and holds solid claims.
