With the 151st Open Championship upon us, we assess whether a LIV Golf player could potentially lift the trophy come Sunday night. Which LIV Golfers have the best chance of winning the 2023 Open Championship from Royal Liverpool Golf Club, Hoylake?
Could A LIV Golfer Win The 2023 Open Championship?
With the 151st Open Championship just a matter of days away, all of the world’s best golfers will be putting in the final touches of practice, hoping to peak for four days, 72 holes to be precise, this week in Liverpool.
The 151st Open Championship takes centre stage at Royal Liverpool Golf Club in Hoylake – for the 13th time in history. As always with The Open, the tournament venue is rotated between a select group of coastal links courses in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
The course this week is expected to be majorly challenging for the players with unpredictable weather conditions acting as a dangerous banana peel for contenders who find themselves towards the top of the leaderboard.
So far this year we have already had three of golf’s major championships. Firstly, Jon Rahm triumphed at Augusta National in The Masters, before Brooks Koepka won a fifth major at the PGA Championship and Wyndham Clark won his maiden major at the US Open.
Now, heading into the 151st Open Championship, the likes of Rahm, Koepka, world number one Scottie Scheffler and of course Rory McIlroy are amongst the market leaders with the best sports betting apps to win.
However, the question on everyone’s lips is, could a player from LIV Golf win The Open this week? Certainly don’t rule it out!

Which LIV Golfers Have The Best Chance Of Winning The 151st Open Championship?
Going into the 151st Open Championship, all eyes will be on one of LIV Golf’s star players – Cameron Smith.
He of course won The Open Championship at St Andrews last year, winning his first major championship in the process. Now he aims to win back-t0-back titles, which would be a first since Padraig Harrington in 2008, as he goes into this week at Royal Liverpool Golf Club as the fourth betting favourite with the best golf betting sites.
Another LIV Golf player who will fancy his chances this week is the American, Brooks Koepka. Koepka won the PGA Championship earlier this year, his fifth major championship. He is amongst the favourites this week for the 151st Open Championship at odds of around 18/1.
Another former major champion who represents LIV Golf is of course Dustin Johnson. On his day ‘DJ’ is an outstanding player. He can be backed at odds of around 35/1 with the best online gambling sites to claim his third major championship.
Bryson DeChambeau is a major winner at the US Open in 2020, and will be another LIV Golf player looking to go all the way this week in Hoylake. Although DeChambeau can be wild off the tee, which could completely take him out of contention on a course like this, he remains another LIV Golf player in with a solid chance of success this week.
The great Phil Mickelson is going for a seventh major championship this week at odds of 250/1 and won The Open in 2013 at Muirfield Golf Links in Scotland with a score of three-under-par, shooting a final round 66 to finish three strokes ahead of runner-up Henrik Stenson.
Other LIV Golf players such as Patrick Reed, Talor Gooch, Mito Pereira and Joaquin Niemann could also be good outside bets to go all the way at the 151st Open Championship this year. All in all, there are so many top players representing LIV this week at The Open. Do not be surprised to see this week’s champion come from the Saudi Arabia-backed golf league!
