SportsLens (Joe Lyons) 1-2-3 Tips: SUPER SURVIVOR looks to be the one to beat here for the Jamie Snowden yard. This seven-year-old has very valuable form on good ground which could be a decisive factor. The son of Shantou is one of the lowest rated horses in the field (130) and is partnered with the in-form rider Gavin Sheehan, who recently added the G1 King George Chase to his quickly growing trophy cabinet onboard Hewick. Iwilldoit, who runs off top weight (153) and won this race comfortably two years ago, can follow home the pick, with Iron Bridge in third.

Welsh Grand National Best Bet

In a 20-runner field, SUPER SURVIVOR looks short enough at 5/1 – but his singular appearance on good ground at Carlisle last year is promising form. He’s proven to be versatile too. He raced on this card last year and beat Mister Coffey by five lengths, who went on to finish eighth in the Randox Grand National at Aintree.

Gavin Sheehan is riding out of his skin at the minute and his confidence is at an all time high. He won the Coral Gold Cup on Datsalrightgino and the December Gold Cup on Fugitif earlier this month before landing the biggest prize of them all at Kempton on Boxing Day.

Most of Super Survivor’s fellow market leaders are giving away weight to him, which could pay dividends for trainer Jamie Snowden. He’s lightly raced and will have been targeted for this prize.

SportsLens’ Andy Newton put together a fascinating guide of stats and trends for the race, which Super Survivor ticks up and down.

Welsh Grand National Best Outsider

There’s plenty of value in the field but preference lies with Rebecca Curtis’ WAYFINDER (25/1) who has previous and valuable experience at this track. The nine-year-old raced here earlier this month, finishing second and won on good ground at Chepstow in October 2022.

He’s ran well on both completions this season (fell on second run at the Cheltenham November meeting) and is proven at over 3m2f. The Irish-bred bay gelding is the lowest rated horse in the race and could have decent each-way prospects.
