Ruby Walsh Cheltenham Festival Tips on Day Two: Wednesday 15th March 2023
See below the Ruby Walsh Cheltenham Festival tips on day two, as the ex-jockey and still leading rider at the meeting selects his best bets on all seven races.
1.30: Ballymore Novices’ Hurdle ITV4 – IMPAIRE ET PASSE @ 6/4 with Paddy Power
Yet to lose a race and Ruby feels it will remain that way with this Willie Mullins runners. He’s caught the eye in winning all three starts – including last time out when winning the Moscow Flyer at Punchestown. The longer trip is expected to suit Impaire Et Passe too as Mullins looks to follow-up his win in this day two opener from last year.
2.10: Brown Advisory Novices’ Chase ITV1 – GERRI COLOMBE @ 6/4 with Paddy Power
Another unbeaten runner here – this time from the Gordon Elliott camp. Gerri Colombe won for a third time over fences at Sandown last time in the Scilly Isles Novices’ Chase and is expected to be even better now upped in trip again.
2.50: Coral Cup Handicap Hurdle ITV1 – CAPTAIN CONBY (e/w) @ 10/1 with Paddy Power
Tough renewal as always, but the Sheey-trained Captain Conby is expected to go well by Ruby Walsh. This 6 year-old has a consistent profile after two seconds and a third this season. Up 10lbs again here makes life harder, but has been freshened up with 2 1/2 months off and we know he stays this 2m5f trip will too.

3.30: Queen Mother Champion Chase ITV1 – EDWARDSTONE @ 6/4 with Paddy Power
Looks a decent renewal of the day two feature race with last year’s winner Energumene a big player, along with the Gary Moore-trained Editeur Du Gite. But Ruby feels the 2022 Arkle Chase winner Edwardstone can go well here. 7 of the last 12 Arkle winners have followed up in this race the next season.
4.10: Glenfarclas Cross Country Chase ITV1 – DELTA WORK @ 6/5 with Paddy Power
We’ve another past champion on show here in Delta Work. This Gigginstown horse won this contest last year – beating former two-time Grand National winner Tiger Roll in the process. He ran will in the Cross-Country race on Trials Day here (3rd) but was giving a lot of weight away that day. Back on level terms here and Ruby feels his experience over the track can be the difference against stablemate Galvin.
4.50: Grand Annual Handicap Chase RTV – DINOBLUE @ 5/1 with Paddy Power
Leading owner JP McManus has a strong hand in this race and it’s one of his that Ruby is pinning his hopes to – Dinoblue. This 6 year-old gets in with a nice racing weight of 10-13 and with just three runs over fence comes here unexposed. She’s yet to finish out of the first two from her three previous runs over fences.
5.30: Champion Bumper RTV – FACT TO FILE @ 4/1 with Paddy Power
A race Willie Mullins has won 12 times and he’s got a big hand again. He’s got 10 of the 24 runners in the race, but with Ruby still having a strong link to the Co. Carlow yard it’s interesting he’s going for Fact To File. This horse was runner-up to A Dream To Share last time at Leopardstown but on this stiffer track is expecting this McManus horse to reverse the form.
