Royal Ascot Each-Way Tips For Day Four (Friday 23rd June 2023)
The Hughie Morrison have a top record in the Duke Of Edinburgh Stakes (3:40pm) – winning the prize four times since 2003 – so it could pay to have both his runners this year in your corner.
3.40pm – Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) 1m 4f ITV: STAY WELL @ 28/1 with SpreadEx
This 5 year-old has won twice on the turf from 13 runs and looks to be coming to the boil after a close third at Kempton earlier this month over today’s trip. The handicapper has raised Stay Well just a pound for that win but is still a pound lower than when down the field in this event last season (9th of 18).
But he also took a bit of a hold that day so if he can settle better can be expected to last out better this time – plus, has a much better draw in 14 (drawn 2 last year). Backed up with 16 of the last 17 winners coming from a double-figure stall.
3.40pm – Duke of Edinburgh Stakes (Handicap) 1m 4f ITV: MAKSUD @ 13/2 with SpreadEX
The second Morrison runner in the race is Maksud – a well-bred Golden Horn gelding that has only raced 7 times. He’s won one of those starts, which came on debut at Windsor last season and since then has not disgraced, including when second in a Listed race at the end of last August.
He’s dropped back 2lbs from last time, which was a fair return run after 7 months away from the track so can also be expected to be a lot sharper this time. The final plus is the booking of jockey Tom Marquard – the only jockey to have won on the horse!
