Andrew heads to Bangor, Newbury, Kelso and the Curragh for his six stats-based picks on Saturday, March 25th. Follow his tips this week and all year round on horse racing betting sites with the lowdown on his latest picks below:

BANGOR 1.23

PRESENT FAIR (system – Donald McCain, non-handicap hurdles, Bangor)

Donald McCain has a solid record in non-handicap hurdles at Bangor, scoring with 71 of the 248 qualifiers since 2011 (28.6% strike-rate) for a profit of £54.58 to a £1 level stake at SP (expected winners only 54.58). It’s interesting to see PRESENT FAIR take in this maiden hurdle rather than go handicapping off a mark of 103. He only just lost out on second place when a 25-1 fourth of 17 in a novice hurdle at Wetherby last time and this looks weaker.

NEWBURY 1.30

BLOW YOUR WAD (system – Tom Lacey, first run in a handicap hurdle)

Tom Lacey has won with 23 of his 97 (23.7%) handicap hurdle debutants and backing them blind would have returned a profit of £71.58 to a £1 level stake at SP. BLOW YOUR WAD was beaten by 68 lengths on his latest start but that was in the Grade 1 Tolworth Hurdle at Sandown and the subsequent wind operation suggests that was not his true form. He can bounce back today.

CURRAGH 1.40

BUCANERO FUERTE (system – Amo Racing-owned newcomers)

First-time out is often when to side with Amo Racing-owned runners, with 27 of the 127 qualifiers scoring for a profit of £28.50 to a £1 level stake at SP. In Ireland, the qualifiers recorded form figures of 21411652 (3-8) for a profit of £22.50. BUCANERO FUERTE, a 165,000 euros son of Wootton Bassett, looks a likely type on paper and can make a winning debut.

KELSO 2.25

SPIKE JONES (system – Fontwell winners to Kelso)

The hurdle courses at Fontwell and Kelso share similar characteristics – they are both sharp/left-handed and undulating – and form between the two venues translates well. Given their geographical locations it’s rare for a Fontwell winner to attempt to follow up at Kelso but, since 2016, they have form figures of 11111 (5-5) for a profit of £10.60, with the five wins coming from five different horses. SPIKE JONES can make it six from six.

KELSO 3.00

MIDNIGHT SHUFFLE (system – Midnight Legend, first-time blinkers)

Progeny of the sire Midnight Legend have a useful record in first-time blinkers, landing 25 of their 156 starts (16%) for a profit of £40.33 to a £1 level stake at SP. MIDNIGHT SHUFFLE, successful over 1m7.5f at Musselburgh on her penultimate start, clearly failed to stay 3m at Doncaster last time and can return to winning ways now back in trip in the first-time headgear.

NEWBURY 5.00

CYCLOP (system – David Dennis, veterans’ handicap chases)

David Dennis has a seven from 22 record in veterans’ handicap chases for a profit of £24.83 to a £1 level stake at SP. Those who raced in the past four weeks had form figures of 3112P41111 (6-10) and CYCLOP, who won over the 3m2f trip here just three weeks ago, shouldn’t be inconvenienced by the shorter distance and can follow up.
