Lingfield Punter Scoops £77,000 With 150/1 & 125/1 Winners, But Misses Out On Half a Million

On Tuesday afternoon Lingfield racecourse was the venue that witnessed TWO 100/1+ winners that were remarkably also included in a £77,000 winning £3 Lucky 15 bet for a William Hill punter. But they miss out on monster £500,000 payday by just 2 lengths.

William Hill Punter Scoops £77,000 After Including 150/1 and 125/1 Lingfield Winners in Lucky 15 Bet

Maybe a William Hill shop in Manchester had a visit from Back To The Future’s Marty McFly on Tuesday as most horse racing punters will tell you backing one 100/1+ winner is almost unheard of.

However, to back TWO in the same afternoon at the same meeting is the stuff that only a time traveller armed with a sports almanac would be capable of doing.

Nevertheless, both of these things happened – not only did we see these big-priced winners at Lingfield, but a lucky punter also somehow put them in the same bet.

Ask Her Out and Theyseekhimthere Win At 100/1+

On Tuesday afternoon Lingfield racegoers witnessed a shock 150/1 winner take the first race 12:10pm, as the Richard Rowe trained ASK HER OUT defied the odds under jockey Tabitha Worsley – winning by just a neck.

This 5 year-old was having her debut run at the track, so this mare had no past form to go on.

You, therefore, feel any backers would have purely been supporting her based on her name and maybe in the process of plucking up the courage to ask a lady out on a date.

Then, with the UK betting sites licking their lips, just three races later saw another monster SP return as the 125/1 shot THEYSEEKHIMTHERE won the 1:55pm for the Warren Greatrex team and jockey Sean Bowen – again, by just a neck.

To be fair, not even the Greatrex yard expected much from their 5 year-old – who was last seen beaten 33 lengths at Wetherby back in March.

Warren Greatrex told FromtheStables “Theyseekhimthere is a huge frame of a horse that will be seen to best effect when chasing. He learnt a lot from his bumper run last year and is likely to acquire plenty more knowledge today too.”

Since that run, however, he had a wind operation back in September and that has clearly put some wind in his sails.

The ‘Marty McFly’ double would have paid a staggering 19,025/1.

Punter Wins £77k, But Misses Out On Half a Million By Just 2 Lengths

You’d have maybe expected the odd punter to have had 50p each-way on one of these 100/1+ winners.

However, soon after the two shock results, news broke of a Manchester William Hill shop punter having BOTH horses in a 20p Lucky 15 bet that cost JUST £3.

For those that don’t know, a Lucky 15 is made up of four selections and consists of 15 bets (hence the name) – 4 singles, 6 doubles, 4 trebles and 1 four-fold.

Remarkably this punter also had the winner of the second Lingfield race – Celtic Art at 18/1 – but William Hill were breathing again when his third pick – Mister Who, in the 1:20pm at Lingfield – came second.

But, despite there clearly being steak on the menu in Manchester, it could have been caviar had the third pick won.

If the Toby Lawes-trained Mister Who had won, the punter would have landed £594,559.98 for his 20p (£3 stake) Lucky 15 bet.

The Lucky 15 Bet In Full

  • Ask Her Out 125-1 WON
  • Celtic Art 18-1 WON
  • Mister Who 5-1 PLACED
  • Theyseekhimthere 125-1 WON

£3 stake returned £77,215.80

William Hill’s Lee Phelps told the Racing Post: “One of our customers in Manchester must be delighted that it’s the jumps season, having correctly predicted three winners at Lingfield in a remarkable Lucky 15.

“The 150-1 shot Ask Her Out set the bet up nicely, followed by Celtic Art winning at 18-1, Mister Who placing at 5-1 and 125-1 shot Theyseekhimthere winning by a neck. The ridiculous bet has netted them £77,215.80 and it’s certainly been a Tuesday they won’t forget.”

150/1 and 125 Lingfield Winners Join The ‘Big SP’ Gang

The two Lingfield winners have now been added to the other big-priced winners over the years that include 200/1 scorer Inspiratrice, who won at Taunton in December 2022, and 250/1 Kelso winner Equinoctial in 1990.
